Ordin, I love Swedish meatballs and make them myself, even though I'm not scandanavian. I like the nutmeg in the meatballs and the cream sauce with noodles.

I can't get good raviolis in WA state, so when I went to NY, I bought them fresh from the pasta store and cooked them, then put them in a pan and covered them in mozzarella and baked them. That's what I'm making when I get my pasta maker.

I believe if you want to eat good ethnic food, you have to find an authentic place or make your own food from authentic recipes, like no buying jarred sauce for spaghetti.

Hey, I love haggis. Smokes salmon, onion slices and lemon juis, followed by haggis and bashed neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes) accompanied by uisgebeagh (whisky). Mmmmmmmmm.

What is Aebelskeeva?

BTW, Montreal is supposed to have the world's bets bagels and no-one apparently knows why.

Gremlin, I just saw a show on Montreal on the food channel where this host swore by this bagel store up there. I think they cooked the bagels first in honey water and used a recipe passed down from generations.

I bought the best bagels in Brooklyn. There were a few good stores there. I like a place that makes a good egg bagel and a place that totally covers the bagel in whatever they are using, sesame seeds, onion etc.

Aebelskeeva if it's akin to Danish Aebelskeever, it's a round apple pancake. Round as in a ball. There is a special pan to make 'em.

Someone else likes seviche? I've made it for a number of parties. I'm the only one who eats it.

Just had some California rolls from the (gasp) sushi maker at the grocery store. Yum! Laurel doesn't like this kind though. It's not the raw stuff, it's the surimi crabmeat.

There are some nice bagel places by my house-- I love the parmesan ones, made by a local "mom & pop" place called NY Bagel... :-) (I think!) They even had smoked chubs and fresh lox for sale (quite yummy!)

The ones by Einstein Bagels and Breugger's Bagels are okay, but a bit too "soft" and bready and not enough chewy crust for me :-)

I don't know if I mentioned this already, but I used to go to a great steak house in NJ. They only had steaks, and they used this fantastic steak sauce that blended with the steaks natural juices.

Years later, I mention this place to a girl I work with and she tells me it's Maggi's seasoning that they use and you can buy it in the store. Let that stuff leak over into your fries, and it's heaven.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this story before. If so, sorry!
