Tree/Maple and Scouts To Be On Local Fox Channel..

“Last week, the Staten Island Advance ran an article picturing some cub scouts at a local pizzeria (Goodfellas Pizza), making pies for the customers. What the thrust of it is, is that the owner is amidst a three week run of inviting local civic organizations to come on down and make pizzas for their customers. The patrons are given the choice, upon entering, of either having the regular pizza makers prepare their order or having the scouts (or whoever) make it for them. Now, the idea is that these are being auctioned off for charities, as well as other items that are being donated. The charities include the pediatric outpatient clinic at Staten Island University Hospital, Cooley's Anemia Foundation, Project Hospitality and September's Mission, a group dedicated to 9/11 victims.

So, I called this man and told him that I was the scoutmaster of a Brooklyn based troop and that we were interested in this. He hesitated at first and said that this was benefitting Staten Island charities. I told him that we were community service oriented and that the charity location did not matter. He said, "sure, let's bring Brooklyn in on this." Apparently, he is well on his way to totaling his desired goal of $25,000 raised. So, he asked if we could be there at 6:30 AM Wednesday. Puzzled by this, he then told me that it was because "Good Day, New York", our local Fox TV station's morning show, is going to be there doing a live segment. I took him up on it and so far, I have 5 boys ready to go, hoping that more of them want to get up early and make the trip over to the island. So, if anyone is in the viewing area, check us out tomorrow morning between 6:30 AM an 7 or 7:30 AM.

“It all went well. Lots of fun. Live remotes are always great. They went back and forth into the live feed from the pizza place. There were quite a few people there and they went around the room at different times, so we got a good amount of exposure. The pizza making went to a small group of girls from one of the charities, but that didn't last long and was just a small part of it. It was like a party that got segments of air time whenever they cut away from the newscast. Mike Woods, the weather guy, is the one they send out on these things. So, we just follow his leads and wing it. Later on tonight we are going back to make some pizzas for real for the charities.”

Pepsi, I am surprised that you didn't see us. i heard we got quite a lot of camera exposure from people watching . The segments were fairly short, but there were over half a dozen of them, as they cut in and out from the studio to the live remote. I think that dance group was the last to go on. We got there at 6:30 and had to leave a little after eight.

Last night, we went back to the pizzeria and made some pizzas for real. They are such great folks there. I was really impressed with these people. My boys and their parents that live in Brooklyn got up so early yesterday, had to take a train into Manhattan to catch the 5:30 AM ferry, and then a bus ride on the island for this event, were pretty pooped last night, so they didn't come back to join us in making pizzas for the customers. I can't blame them. It was a lot of traveling, what with school and homework, too. So, it was just Maple and myself and the Twignut and Landstalker, a family/scout affair. We have some great pics that I will post later. It was a long day yesterday an was too tired myself to work on them.”
