It's been a looooong time since I checked in here. I'm amazed that I even remember my password. Any other folks that hang here from Utah? I checked out the upcoming trips and didn't see any closer than Las Vegas, or Colorado RMSP. I do recognize a lot of names from way back. Good to see y'all again. Is Sierra Mel still trampin' around Yosemite?

I'm still in the north end of Utah, about 30 miles south of the Idaho line. I feel like I'm getting old and fat though. I need to get out and hike more. I've got permits for four of us in March to hike into "The Wave", Coyote Buttes, north. Can't wait to try my hand at photographing that. I used to like to hike Coyote Gulch down south of Escalante, but it's been so heavily used of late that I've avoided it. What have you been up to?

I hope to be a Utahin in about 5ish years. I am hoping to move to the Moab area. So are you up for a hike in about?

I LOVE Moab. I'm a great fan of the southern half of the state.

Nigal, Lizs, Griz, Phil, Lipstick..... hmmmm, who else have I missed so bad? And what kept me away so long? Do you guys remember the project we did where we took two throw away cameras and sent them around for everyone to get their "one best shot" with to prove a point? I'm still pissed about Photopoint going belly up and swallowing our photos. However I've been browsing the pages here, and I've noticed that occasionally the first question asked after someone posts a great photo is, "Wow, that's a great shot... what kind of camera do you have?" People are great aren't they? That little reminiscence has prompted me to start another post. Stay tuned.

As for the permits to hike The Wave Lizs, My wife and I and another couple are planning to go, however, I won't be a bit surprised if they bail out on us. Unfortunately for you, another couple has already placed dibs on backup. I'll post photos.

Coyote Buttes
They have gone to a permit only policy on hiking this geologic area. They restrict it to 10 people per day, and enforce it rigorously. If you want permits, they are available online. At NOON (Denver - Mountain Standard Time) on the first day of each month, permits may be obtained up to seven months in advance. For example on January 1st (after Noon) and any day in January, all of the July permits will be available. For any day in February (after 12 noon on the 1st), all of the August permits will be available. . . etc.
https://www.az.blm.gov/paria/index2.html You'd be surprised at how fast they disapear... within MINUTES of opening up, the weekends can be all but gone.

I'm really hoping that March is a good time to hike it. Much later and it gets pretty hot in that part of the country for vigorous activity.

Hobbit,

Good to see the first person who contributed to the Photo Page is still lurking and posting! If you recall, it was your idea!

Mel lives in Bishop most of the time now and is still around, but rarely posts. Strider and a few others still post occasionally.

What has been fun besides going on trips is meeting other TTers when visiting other parts of the country. I met 18 people in Nashville and 9 people in Detroit last year...not to mention various gatherings around here.

Too bad about the pass-around camera pics. Perhaps we need to try something like that again. I suppose you are aware we have some TTers who have some nice cameras (tongue in cheek). Wind Walker, Tekdude, to name a few. Hikin' Mike does some nice work and wannabp has a super camera as well.

See ya!

I will be out that way in the end of January and the first couple of weeks in February. I am doing New Mexico, Arizona and Moab. Looking for a place I'd like to relocate to when I get ready.

I suggest passing around USA's camera:) I forget what it's called. It's not your run of the mill brand. If it was passed around, all each person would have to do is put insurance on it when they mailed it to the next person.
