Shaving in the Backcountry

Hygene issue? Is that why the hair in my pits has a green hue to it? Should I shave my pits?”

“I am with you embear. I sometimes use those mostiure towels to wash up when we reach camp. Sometimes the funk I produce can be pretty nasty.”

“I don't think you should worry about the green hue until you start growing nodules. Any bacterial colonies large enough to see, however, could mean a problem.”

“It seems like the funk from 3 days isn't too bad. That fourth day starts to change things. The body seems less greasy and grimy, yet the funk seems worse. This discussion has me humming George Clinton songs now.”

“I use cold bodies of water to clean off some grime. I loved the streams of Yellowstone & the 'dacks, and the lakes of Glacier for this.

“No, never get the green hue. I have gotten the brown/black hue though from all the dirt and grime! :)

Really, one of the reasons I go out in the backcountry is to get away from the material necessities of society and become part of nature. If I feel dirty, I go jump in a lake/stream/river.

If there is deep water around I usually hop in after dark and scrub off with a bandana. Summer Smokies trips seem the easiest place for this since I usually camp at water and the creeks are usually knee deep in places. Ahhh, the Smokies.”

“I should add that on my last Smokies trip it was deep water. There was a steel bridge at the trail crossing but we were pretty remote. I was about an hour ahead of the rest of the group. There was a place about 2 feet deep with a rock propped up for the perfect backrest. It was nice to strip off, rinse out the clothes and lay them on a boulder to dry and then just kick back in the water and lean against the prop.”

y2 - None of the sites I go to have anything to do with pubic hair, more like a lack thereof.
