When was that, Bit? I met him in 1977. I spent a half hour interviewing him. I still have the tape of the show. NPR actually used a short bite from it on "All Things Considered". You are right, though. He was one freaky dude. Just keeping up with him was a chore!”

My dad knew Karen Carpenter in college, and has met just about anyone who was ever in a sci-fi tv show or movie.

“I sat Estee Lauder's son, I forget his name, at a nice window table in the fancy restaurant I worked in at The Plaza Hotel and he tipped me $1. I guess people watching wondered how much he gave me, $5, $10? That was pretty slick and sneaky on his part. No one would have guessed he gave me $1.

This other nicely attired gentlemen that I did not know what co. he was from, I gave him a window table twice, and he came in one day with a big bag of cosmetics for me. We used to split tips, so my male partner wanted to know if he would be getting a lipstick, lol.”

“Last night Jon and I went to his 20-year high school reunion. Jon grew up in a very small Indiana town called New Carlisle.


And guess who was there? Sean Astin aka Samwise Gamgee (Frodo's friend in Lord of the Rings). He also starred in The Goonies and Rudy.

Jon's classmate Christine married him. He was very nice, and I got honeymoon advice from Christine. Jon and I have talked about going to New Zealand, so she made some suggestions for us.”

“Touched by fame! he seemed like a nice guy, Ruby...I saw him in a couple of interviews...”

“Ruby - New Carlisle is very close to Hudson Lake. Hudson Lake is dear to my heart. My first camping trips were there.”

“NS, the reunion was held at the old dance hall/casino on Hudson Lake.

Jon's parents still live there on Hudson Lake.

“I took some pictures there last year, but have not posted them yet. Got some ducks nearby on the lake and a muskrat. The muskrat is underwater. It dove just as I was going to snap the lens. It was carrying some leaves/brush to eat or for it's nest.

Years ago they build a small dam and flooded over the road along the shore, which led to the area of some family lots. Now, the old pier is gone and the float to which we used to swim and lay on, while soaking up the sun.
