Keep me the loop.” 7:04:33 PM 12/21/04 “Ziggy...when does Parker Pass open? Memorial Day??? I wish they would change their policy on those roads...back in the day we would enter through Jerkey Meadows to the Kern (GTW) as early as Easter in low snowpack years. I'll keep an eye on this one.” 9:04:50 PM 12/21/04 “WindWalker, it's a liability issue with the county regarding the roads. Even if there's no snow there's usually a lot of rock slide activity going on. And the county doesn't have money to maintain them when there's not that great of a need to. Parker Pass, yes, around Memorial Day weekend.” 11:34:05 AM 12/22/04 “This sounds like a pretty interesting area. I might be up for doing this wekend hike. Need to get in some hikes as a warm up to the High Sierra Trail trip.” 2:57:37 PM 12/23/04 “I went to Domelands the past two springs. It is a great early spring Sierra trip. We went in early May and it was hot both trips. Highs in the 80\'s and lows in the 40\'s. Good flower displays, especially the first year. Came close to 2 rattlesnakes the first year and 1 last year, so be careful. One encounter was right on the trail, it was sunning itself on the PCT. Domelands is a Giardia hotspot due to lots of beavers, so bring a filter instead of chemicals or let the chemicals work for hours instead of minutes. I\'m going in again this year the first or second weekend in May. I\'ll let you know the conditions when I get back. This year we are going to hike completely around the domes. It is 25-30 miles I believe. Bear containers are not required, we had no problems using Ursacks.” 3:34:27 PM 12/24/04 interested... “I'd be interested in joining you for this trip. If it's planned around a weekend - but if I need to take off a monday or friday, that would be okay too. I'll stay up on the thread for more info. Thanks. Rob Ritchey” 6:05:34 PM 1/23/05 “I'd like to do this trip.” 4:34:26 PM 2/24/05 “I'd like to go but I think there's a NASCAR race that weekend. Shoot.” 7:17:20 PM 2/24/05 “I have to go to the Nascar races this weekend, but just Saturday - so I get to hike on Sunday.” 1:49:01 AM 2/25/05 “Bearcrossing, Robertr, Navigusser, would be nice to see ya all again. I think I can squeeze this trip in. Had to give up the Kibbie Lake trip due to family scheduling. Car-pooling anyone? Sac area!” 11:15:58 PM 3/26/05 “Darn, Just noticed that this trip is Fathers Day weekend. I won't be able to make it. Fathers come first.” 7:51:59 PM 3/28/05 “Fathers Day AND my wifes birthday” 8:18:50 PM 3/28/05 “Would love to do this trip but the father's day thing, darn!” 1:46:20 PM 3/29/05 “Hey all... It looks like I may be able to make this after all. It will be a good relaxing hike before my TRT hike in July. I've moved my Canyonlands trip up to the first of May. Songbyrd - carpooling would be great for obvious reasons. This is a pretty good drive. Rob” 2:07:48 PM 4/01/05 “Great, We'll figure the carpool thing out somehow. Is there any place safe to leave my car in Yuba City?” 2:40:06 PM 4/01/05 songbyrd “Are you referring to the upcoming Lost Coast hike or to the Dome Land hike? If Dome Land, we'll be headed south so I should drive down here. I currently live in Rocklin, but am considering moving back up to Yuba City due to money saving issues. By the time the Lost Coast hike comes up, I may be living up there and you can park your car at my place. The place I'm looking at is a very safe place. Yuba City isn't as bad as you've heard (at least parts of it) :) Rob” 10:22:15 PM 4/04/05 Robert “I guess I posted on the wrong thread. I was refering to the Lost Coast trip. I will not make this one (Dome Land) due to Fathers Day.” 8:34:46 AM 4/05/05 songbyrd again.. ;) “I will be living up in Yuba City by the time the Lost Coast trip arrives - Im beginning my move now. My place will be very safe so you're welcome to come up here and drive from my place. Let me know. My e-mail is rob_ritchey@yahoo.com” 12:45:35 AM 4/06/05 “Thanks Robert. That's probably what I will do. I'll email you when time gets closer.” 8:44:36 AM 4/06/05 “Will another weekend be better for y'all?” 8:32:04 PM 4/06/05 “YES! Memorial Day would be good. June 4th / 5th or 11th / 12th would be good too. Or even the 25th / 26th.” 9:01:23 PM 4/06/05 “Memorial Day Weekend is out for me, I'll be in Boston for my best friend's wedding. The 4th and 5th is the Kibbie Lake Trip. Will the 11th/12th or the 25th/26th work for you?” 8:52:50 AM 4/07/05 “Tell your friend to change his wedding! Jeeze, where are your priorities? 8^) Yes, the 11th / 12th or 25th / 26th work for me.” 9:04:04 AM 4/07/05 “Any weekend is good for me.” 11:11:17 AM 4/07/05 “Cool beans, I'll change it to the 25th-26th for now :) Since we've gotten so much snow this year this may be the safer bet for being able to drive over the Western Divide or Sherman Pass and get back in there...” 5:36:02 PM 4/07/05 “June 25th & 26th! I joined.” 5:54:52 PM 4/07/05 “I would like to go on this trip but am a novice and would like to know more. Also do you want a beginner along? last edited: 4/07/05 6:40:20 PM” 6:37:36 PM 4/07/05 “Bearcrossing, Can't go June 25-27. Diva campout already reserved for that weekend at Rollins. If the dates change, you should plan to join us Divas. A lot of fun. Looks like June is out for me on any weekend. You guys have fun and I'll catch you on another.” 8:17:46 PM 4/07/05 “Mari, in my opinion, newbies are always welcome. They get so much enjoyment out of the experience and they're fun to watch. What would you like to know about the trip? As a novice, can you outfit yourself?” 9:05:19 PM 4/07/05 OT “Buck and WingDing0, SnowDude had tickets to that race too, but our Avy Course was that weekend. He sold them Thursday before the race.” 9:38:46 PM 4/07/05 “thank you for getting back to me, naviguesser My questions -What is the terrain like since I usually only day hike trails What elevation are we talking about? and are there any scarey cliffs... As for outfitting- I have read the must have lists and can get that but don't know what other stuff is necessary. M” 9:53:32 PM 4/07/05 “Ok, the terrain is best discribed as rolling hills. This area was burn out in '94? and it's still very open. That means it will be hot with very little shade but really nice views of some of the domes the wilerness is named after. We'll be starting at 7820' and going to a high point of 7985' then camping at about 7090'. All in about 4 miles with NO cliffs, scary or otherwise. E-mail me at naviguesser@backpacker.com and let me know what gear you do have and what you're going to need.” 11:28:02 PM 4/07/05 Diva Campout “Did I hear something about a Diva campout? Songbyrd, where is this Diva campout going to be held? I've always wanted to go to a Diva campout - I think I mentioned this to you at our Sequoia trip. Very respectfully... Robert-a ;)” 2:36:18 PM 4/08/05 Diva Campout “Did I hear something about a Diva campout? Songbyrd, where is this Diva campout going to be held? I've always wanted to go to a Diva campout - I think I mentioned this to you at our Sequoia trip. Very respectfully... Robert-a ;)” 2:36:19 PM 4/08/05 “Do you have Diva parts???? I don;t think sooo!!! Lol” 7:20:49 PM 4/08/05 “Hey, I just saw this trip and joined. songbyrd I have the diva trip marked down for August 13-14th or so. Are you having another one in June?” 12:12:09 AM 4/09/05 “No, just August. But only Divas.. no Dudes. Sorry Robert. I'm sure you will get enough of us Divas by then. LMAO” 1:23:48 PM 4/09/05 Dive campout “Who is Robert? My name is RobertA - the web site misplaced the r and it should be an a. As a RobertA, can't I come to the Diva Campout LOL.” 3:08:42 PM 4/10/05 “RobertA are you going to stick with that when you meet some of the GUYS on TT? J/K 8^)” 4:53:15 PM 4/10/05 “RobertA, (Mrs Doubtfire)...you just opened up a whole new can of worms. LMAO” 8:57:39 AM 4/11/05 “So how many of you want to do an overnighter and how many are willing to take Monday off and do a two-nighter?” 1:14:44 PM 4/19/05 “It'd be a weekender for me. Maybe I could get an early enough start to go in on Fri. and out on Sun.” 1:55:54 PM 4/19/05 “I'll probably be driving out there early Saturday morning and staying Saturday and Sunday nights out on the trail. I'm hoping that this loop trip with a side trip will accomodate both those who want to do just Saturday night on the trail and those who want to stay and explore more the second night.” 11:18:44 AM 4/20/05 Domeland last w/e in June “I just checked my schedule and if work does not do a hiccup on me, I can make Sat and Sun night. Looking forward to this B/P trip as I had to cancel the June Kibbie Lake one. I was scheduled to work. Debra” 11:29:36 AM 4/20/05 “Cool, I look forward to hiking with you again Debra :)” 12:35:52 PM 4/21/05 “Cool. As it stands now, I get to meet 4 new people.” 2:34:01 PM 4/21/05 “I'll probably go in that Friday and if need be sleep in my Subaru. I don't think I'll be taking monday off but I could get there Friday night if anyone would like to join me? navi? I haven't mapped this one out yet so I don't know how long it's going to take me from Truckee. I'll figure it out.” 10:28:54 PM 4/21/05 “Chic, come down 395 and turn right toward Kennedy Mdw. It's much faster that way then driving up from the West. Once you leave Porterville, it takes like 2 days to drive to the trailhead.” 12:25:56 AM 4/22/05 “BC is there to many people on this trip already for another person? Hikerchic would I be able to ride with you possibly? There is no way I could take our car that distance HA! it is a beat up old Tahoe subaru. I have been watching this trip, sounds very interesting to me, and with the lower elevations sounds like a good early hike. Do you all hike fast? I have never been on TT backpack before...Do you kind of just do your own thing as far as each one hiking there own pace and stopping when they feel like it? Sorry if these questions sound a bit silly” 1:12:04 AM 4/22/05 << back to Dome Land Wilderness page
