In 2004... “I hiked in GA, NC, TN, WV, VA, MD, PA, NY, NJ, CT, and MA- from Mt. Greylock to Tallulah Gorge! I whitewater rafted the Lower Gauley, Cheat, Upper Yough, Stonycreek, and New Rivers. Canoed the Clarion River. Anyone else?” 7:47:55 AM 12/27/04 “I hiked VA, NC, CA, WV, and WY. I snowboarded PA and CO.” 7:50:51 AM 12/27/04 “I hiked TN, GA, AL, PA, VA, WV, SC, NC, KY,(the ADK, was that this year??) Didnt' do any whitewater rafting this year.” 7:53:38 AM 12/27/04 “I hiked in AL, TN, NC, and CO this year. I rafted in TN and NC. I canoed in AL. I visited Mexico. I went to Disney World. I backpacked about 5x, which is good for me. I family, car camped 2 or 3x. I think 2x. I need to do this 3x or 4x next tyear. In the coming year I need to family camp more, backpack about the same, raft more since my wife likes rafting, and take an anniversary trip to Jamiaca. Those are my goals.” 7:56:48 AM 12/27/04 “I hiked Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. I hosted two Trail Talk trips in Yellow River State Forest in Iowa. I canoed Wisconsin. I got a horrendously expensive speeding ticket in Wisconsin. I looked for 5th U.S. Cavalry as well as homesteading relics in the Pine Ridge area of northwestern Nebraska in the U.S. Forest Service's "Passport in Time" (PIT) program. I added to my National Parks passport booklet: Florida National Trail, Ice Age National Trail, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument (Nebraska) and Ocmulgee National Monument and Andersonville National Historical Site (both Georgia)... seems like there was more than this, but all I can think of now. I attempting rockhounding at the famous Fairburn Agate Beds in South Dakota (but need more help on identification of agates. LOL). I put my geocaching total up to 72. Best finds were an old gold mine and a vintage homestead "dug-out" still containing a bedframe, both in South Dakota. Today I do a little caving for an article. :-) last edited: 12/27/04 8:03:46 AM” 8:00:34 AM 12/27/04 “Cross country skiied in January & February...over 200 miles in February Backpacked in 2 foreign countries - Minnesota and Iowa. Thru hiked the SHT. More than 35 bag nights and around 500 miles. Spent my Wisconsin Resident Dividend Check at REI (this is the annual check each resident gets from the total $ obtained in non-resident traffic tickets). A good year.” 8:19:14 AM 12/27/04 “I happened upon a funky web site and started backpacking in March. Backpacked and camped in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan. Got 27 bag nights, met 30+ interesting and quirky TTers in the process. Spent a good amount of money in pursuit of gear.” 9:47:58 AM 12/27/04 “I thought a lot about hiking this year, does that count? Actually only made one day hike this year before Lyme Disease (temporarily) took out my knees and shoulders.” 10:00:29 AM 12/27/04 “I hiked CO, TN, NC, FL, PA, WV and NY and camped in VA. Summited several Sixer's in Shining Rock and the Black Mtns. But the best part was meeting and hanging out with all the great new friends. 2005 can only get better.” 10:03:09 AM 12/27/04 “I thought about hiking a lot also. I will add either Missouri or Kentucky to that list this weekend. More important than where was the who and why of the trips. I met a lot of great people and learned more than any year since my first year of backpacking.” 11:36:34 AM 12/27/04 “5 day bp in south san juan wldrnss, co 2- 3day bp's in wiminuche wldrnss, co 2 days buckskin gulch to paria river& back, ut 4 days on fish- owl creek loop, ut lost track of fly fishing days in san juan & rio grande forests can't wait till the snow melts” 11:57:18 AM 12/27/04 “I'm shocked that none of the jokers around here have posted a "Who did you do this year" thread.” 12:00:31 PM 12/27/04 “Wouldn't we have to remember names then?” 12:02:10 PM 12/27/04 “Backpacking trips this year in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. Snowboarded in PA, and numerous slieghriding/tobogin(sp?) trips.” 12:30:53 PM 12/27/04 “In my home state, I did lots of little dayhikes, day kayak adventures and overnight car-camping. And, I backpacked the Jordan River Valley, the High Country Pathway, the Manistee River Trail and North Country Trail. And, did a multiple-day kayak trip on the Fox and Manistique Rivers in the UP. And... I did an overnighter in TN at Montgomery Bell and met tons of new fantastic TTers at a Nashville gathering. I did an awesome dayhike in So Cal w/ some awesome TTers. I dayhiked a gorge and kayaked a resevoir and the Little Miami River in Southern Ohio. I backpacked and kayaked in Alaska. I quit my job of 8 1/2 years to go back to school full time I watched my mother get diagnosed with and beat breast cancer. I ran a half marathon I hiked the Tracy Ridge System in Pennsylvania and met even more fantastic TTers. I spent the Winter Solstice under the stars in northern Ohio. And, before the year is out, I will do a six-mile snowshoe hike to a hut in the White Mountains w/ BB and skiracer. 35 total bag nights for 2004. Guess I can't complain! Thats 10% of the year spent under the stars...” 12:50:54 PM 12/27/04 “I ran a marathon in 3 hours, 12 minutes, and 53 seconds. 'nuff said.” 3:10:17 PM 12/27/04 “2004 was a great year. I managed to get in a lot of hiking and as a result I’m going to need to retire my hiking boots and replace them with a new pair. Some of the highlights of the year were the following trips: FYAO IV, my first winter backpack. Slept in a snow bank the first night, the second night was in a lean-to, but the mercury dropped to around -26F. I did my first hike in the Catskills and climbed over Wittenberg, Cornell, and Slide Mountains. In July I did the most elevation gain in a weekend I’ve ever done a little over 9800’ I successfully traversed the Adirondack Great Range Hike Maine III was my first hiking trip out of state. It also was the first time I climbed an Appalachian Peak (Katahdin) and also was the first time my feet ever stepped on the AT. I can’t wait to see what 2005 will bring.” 7:21:52 PM 12/27/04 “AT trail peak? the catkills are part of the Apps too.” 7:23:53 PM 12/27/04 “The Catkill's aren't technically mountains, they are an extension of the Alleghany Plateau. As far as the AT, I probably hiked a grand total of 5 miles of it in Maine, at the rate I'm going I might finish it some time in 2404. ;)” 7:38:00 PM 12/27/04 “I did my first real backpacking trip in Pennsylvanis this year.....Johnny Cake Run Trail.....ThanxG weekend. The trip in October to Harriman State Park was my first time there. For the first time since '93 I made it back to Forillon National Park at the east end of Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec. We hiked to an overlook 300 meters above the Gulf Of Saint Lawrence. I bagged my first three Adirondack High Peaks--Santanonnis--in September with Lumberzac, Buddur, Pennsy and Bobo. They tell me the Santanonnis are the toughest. In May I finally set foot on Haystack Knob in West Virginia.......a little victory for me.” 7:39:21 PM 12/27/04
