time to weight in and tell us how much you lost in 2004 and how much you want to loose in 2005

I lost 15 lbs in 2004 but did not stick to it. I am starting early instead of waiting for Jan 05 to start again.
How much do I plan on losing? not telling!

over all...I lost 75 pounds but gained back 15. I have been holding steady for several months now. I want to lose the 20 and be done with it.

I lost 30, to my target of 192, lost another 9 during my endurance training, back up to 192 since Oct. I liked my training weight better, I 'd like to drop another 5-10. I think I can do that pretty simply by cutting out all of the holiday junk and getting back into my workout routine.

lost 4 lbs overall in 2004. Didn't really have a goal for weight or do anything except workout more. But I think 7 more pounds would be good to get off. Now, just to find it.

I love to cook so my goal is to learn more about nutrition and cook more meals from fresh whole foods. I'm sure the pounds will basically drop off if I lay off more of the quick stuff. (and ignore my sweet tooth more often!)

yes the sweet toth..thats my downfall as well. I am supposed to eat like a diabetic anyway so I better knock off the sweets and sodas.

dhutch, check out "Food for Fitness" from the library. I wouldn't buy it, but it has some good ideas, especially for you adventure races and nutrition around races and training. My biggest problem has been cutting back carbs during my recovery/transition period.

I lost a lot of weight during my thru hike of the SHT. The love handles that had grown on my love handles had actually disappeared. Thanks to brownies and chocolate chip cookies I've gained it back, but thanks to my training I'm pretty solid and my endurance is great. Presently I can eat chocolate most of the evening without having to take a break. Now that's cardiovascular fitness!

Anybody seen the new PSA's that show people finding bellies, love handles etc that people "lost"? Pretty gross.

Never thought I'd see a pathologist being grossed out about body parts, lol.

They make these look like they are still "alive". The kids poke a belly on the beach and it jiggles.

To tell you the truth, fat is still gross in the path lab.

Well, I renewed my membership at the gym. Here's hoping I use it more than I did last year.

I went from a 12 to an 8 in 2004 but only lost about 10 pounds.
I thought I'd put on a bunch over the holidays with having to stay off my feet and out of the pool for three weeks but I didn't. My surgeon rolled his eyes at me yesterday and gave a huge sigh. When he took out my stiches I asked him if I could start swimming laps again today. It's going to be another month before I can get out of the surgical shoe and start working my way back up to running. I miss a good endorphin boosting workout, alot.
My goal for 2005: get stronger with some weight training and more focused training with running and climbing and paddling.

You know the holidays have been stressful when you step onto a scale and find out that you've lost 3 pounds!.....

Let's see... 5 trips to the airport, a funeral of an extremely close and long time family friend, going to 4 houses in 4 days for Christmas, participating in a grueling community organization meeting, power shopping from noon till midnight....sleeping at about 4:30 am 3 nights straight (due to having to take my sister to & from the airport...), going to a wedding banquet, a niece's B'day party....

This all started AFTER a great evening with local TTers.....

I'm definitely in need of a vacation from my vacation! (losing weight is great, but not at the expense of sleeping!)

I'm down only 5 lbs in 2004, and hope to get down another 10 lbs in 2005. I haven't stepped on the scale in a few weeks, and I don't plan to do so. I've been to the gym a couple of times, and have been working my arse off in my house the last few days. Been eating like a pig, though. I'm guessing I'll have put a couple lbs back on.

Not losing any weight...not til the AT I guess. Two hours up and down the stairs at the Hockey Arena with my pack today. My endurance is good, the rest will come.

Good for you.

I blew off '04, so I'm taking '05 seriously. HPM thinks I only need to lose 30 lbs; I think I need to lose more like 70. A bit of a difference there.

I wanted to get back to my "before I quit smoking weight". After lots of hard work, lots of trial and error, I finally did it. Was hard as hell though because my thyroid really sort of must've went nuts too, but hey...after over one year everything is back to normal.

Not really sure how much I've lost though. Leaned not to check the scale as much.

hey!! now I have NO excuse to start smoking again.

You know what Gem, when my Mom quit smoking, her thyroid went nuts too. Coincidence, eh?

I had a tyroid problem for the last 20 years and I am on meds for it, but for some reason it just went nutser (??? nutser?? nutier?? hmmm.... )

It goes back to normal after a while, strange.
the nutritienist at the hospital also told me that after you quit smoking your Metabolism will slow down. So you don't really need to eat more to gain weight, if you already have a fudged up metabolism, you will gain weight. sucks!!!

Lost 18lbs last year because of last years thread- thanks for the support. Unfortunatly for me, I gained all of it and then some between August and now. I attribute alot of it to stress but really it was not making the effort to get myself to the gym - so easy to go straight home after a long day. I'm gonna try to make the effort to get back into the gym routine - it helps my attitude and releives the stress. Just gotta make the time even if I am beat. Good luck to everyone!!

I regained mine too TT and in the same time frame. I kept going to the gym and working out pretty hard, but as I get older the metabolism just goes to #&%!$. Hiking is the only thing that seems to work because I'm burning calories big time and hang all my food in a tree every night. I'm not willing to do much about my eating when living in a house...in fact I hear some chocolate pudding calling me right now.

I didn't gain anything, but that's prolly because I had no holiday food. :(
No worry, I never was that much into christmas dinners and stuff anyway.

Ruby, 2 weeks hiking trip, that's all you need. come on!!

Gem, I like your idea. But the funny thing was that when I went on a one-week trip this fall which was quite rigorous and utterly exhausted me and had me physically spent each and every day, when I got home, I had gained weight. !?!?!?!!? WTF I figured it was water. It went away after a couple days.

I lost 15lbs in 2004, all which I gained back by the end of 2004 plus a few. Goal for the year is 40lbs. Gonna start running tomorrow as well as a diet.

Okay then, I'm starting tomorrow. I wish I could do this by spending a few weeks a month in the wilderness, but I'll have to get by with the weekend trips and weeknights at the gym. Gonna try for -20 lbs by the end of April. Why does it have to be SOOOOOO easy to put it on and SOOOOO hard to get rid of it??!!
Dub- are you doing a specific diet or just trying to eat healthier?
What's everybody else doing as far as the dieting end of losing weight?
Gem- yeah, 2 "bad" days would be okay, but I know me and 2 bad days would stretch to 3, then 4 , and so on!! ;)

I would like to lose about 30lbs. I weigh 210 now and would like to get down to around 180.

I lost 17 lbs in about 2 months back in 2002. I stopped drinking pop, stopped eating chocolate, started drinking water and exercised everyday. I lost a little weight when I changed my diet but it wasn't until I started exercising everday that the weight came off fast.

Nimblefoot - Great idea! When I'm settled in my tent for the night, my food is hanging in a tree... Not easy to get into that dark chocolate... Now... Wonder what the neighbors would think of my food bags in the trees in my front yard??? I do ok until evening. Must.....have......willpower.....

i don't know how many pounds i want to lose. i'll have to get a bf measurement. i'd say about 20. i went crazy this year and gained about 45 pounds. after i get my bf measured i'll know for sure, but i think about 25 pounds of it was muscle.
i just kept eating big and lifting hard cause i didn't want to start cutting those calories away.
one of my goals this year is to monitor my fat better. after gaining 5 pounds of fat i'll diet and cut it back off. i also don't see myself putting on as much muscle this year as last. i'll probably go into a maintenance stage after i get that six pack i havent' been seeing lately.

Ruby - I'm with you. If I could consistently get more fruits and veggies in my diet, I'd be better off overall. I doubt I'd eat as much crap as I did over the holidays. Why is getting more f/v each day such a struggle? Seems so easy!

Ductape: I assume when you say "I have to get my bf measured" you don't mean "boyfriend"? LOL

Spirit: Still thinking about the Smokies. Can't go that weekend in January though. But that would be a fun way to celebrate my birthday!

My wife and I are going back on WW starting today. We each lost 30# in 2002/2003. When our son went in the hospital in late spring of 03 we both put 10 on during that 2 weeks of stress eating. Over the 18 months or so since then I've put another 10 on and she's put 5. Now that I think about it she put on 5 initially and now 5. I'm up 20 and she's up 10. I got too thin last time. I want to lose 10 and she wants to lose 5-8.

I kept my weight loss up throughout the first 6 months of 2004. The last 6 months of 2004 was a disaster. I gained back some of what I had lost. I know how hard it is to get to that goal. It took me forever to get past 200 lbs but when I did it the rest went quickly. Now I have to go through all that crap again :(
seems single life agreed a little to much with me...wine,women and food..sigh but what fun =)

Been lifting and running this week. Today hit me hard...my chest and arms are so sore I can barely move them. Worst soreness I've ever felt in my life. But just running a mile a day has already given me a little more energy and I'm feeling better. I'll chime in again once I lose enough weight to count it.
