fleece socks/shirt
Picked up some(3pair) fleece socks and a couple of shirts. not much invested about 40 bucks. i figure on adding foot powder before putting the socks on.to deal with the sweat facter. is this the right way to go? and a wicking layer under the fleece shirt.
would it hurt the fleece to spray it with scotch guard? figure a little water resistance couldnt hurt.

I use liners and don't have problems. Never tried the scotchguard spray.

Ingenius Socks
I got sone sox called "INgenius" sox from Wigwam... see http://www.sockco.com/stronbootsoc.html for their boot sox 80% Merino wool or http://www.sockco.com/wiginhik.html for their "hiker" (65% wool). I got the boot sox for their higher wool content and warmth at Dick's sporting goods (where I work). They retail for $16.00 per pair but are worth every penny.

I wouldn't wear fleece... too sweaty and foot powder is only going to make a gooey mess in there. If you do wear them get some capiline or Olefin or coolmax liners to help the wicking process and make sure they lie flat under your fleece sox to prevent the blisters that can occur when the liners bunch up under the outer sock. The liners in the INgenius sox are integrated into the sock. Pretty cool... I mean warm! Used them to climb Mount Washington Dec.5 in snow and zero degree weather.

Peace Out...

In hiking boots, fleece socks don't resist abrasion very well and wear out fast from my experience with them. They flatten out pretty quickly too.

I was wondering. I had seen fleese socks advertised. They look comfy but I dobted they would have stood up in hiking very long.

They're OK in booties or slippers, but that's about it.
