I thought about this on my dayhike Monday.
2004 was a hedonistic pig-out for me in many respects. I partied, traveled, went to a bunch of cool shows, and generally goofed off. It was fun, but not satisfying. I'd like to have something more to show for 2K5.
That being said, I hope that 2005 finds me involved in more charitible work.
I'd like to do something with Boys and Girls Club. I also want to get involved with a military dependants organization. I know how tough it is on families of deployed servicemen/women.

Anyone else have 2005 resolutions beyond the usual lose X amount of lbs?

I did quite a bit with Boys/Girls club several yrs ago. Loved it.

Around the first of the year I will be a volunteer companion/chaplain for a Hospice organization in the Chicago area--provided I pass the physical and the background check!

1) Spend more time with family and friends and less time giving away my free time....

2) Complete the Breast Cancer 3-Day, AND raise $5,000 for my walk.... :-)

3) Build a better portfolio of my artwork and photography and start my own business (instead of giving away my time for free!)

One of my resolutions is to volunteer more. I just applied to be a USO volunteer. Another one is to learn how to play guitar.

What are you gonna do with the USO? Do you live near a military installation?

1. Take better care of myself (nutrition, water etc)
2. Keep in touch with my friends and family more consistently (I've been a horrible correspondent)
3. Complete the 72 hour 300 mile coast to coast MI adventure race with my teammates and have a blast doing it!

Other than that I'm aiming to be the best person I can be every day of 2005. To do unto others....and be more patient

Currahee, they need volunteers at every USO location. I am within an hour's drive to the USO locations at Midway and O'Hare airports, Great Lakes, and Navy Pier. Don't know yet what they'll have me do. On my application I said I was willing to go to any of those places on any shift and do whatever they need done. Some of the things they had on the app were typing, computer work, sewing, baking. At least those are the things I said I could help with.

I also just finished a volunteer project for the Veterans History Project. I find that with my bf Jon over in Afghanistan currently, I gravitate to military volunteer positions and projects. It makes me feel like I'm helping out in a tiny little way.

I learned something new about the USO. Did you know that if you are going to the airport to meet a military person, you can go to the USO office at that airport and get a pass which allows you to meet them at the gate rather than at baggage claim? When Jon arrives at the Indianapolis airport next August, I am definitely taking advantage of that.

I find it easier to make resolutions for other people. For example, you people resolve to be more polite on TT and to get more bag nights in 2005.

I would like to volunteer more time in helping co-eds feel more secure about their bodies, thus fighting several horrible & debilitating mental disorders at once.

And I hope to get back to the 'dacks.

question. "co-ed" means co-educational, as in a school that enrolls both men & women. so why are only girls called "co-eds"?
lyra

well, i guess it came from schools that used to be men-only, and it was a new thing for girls to be there, so the guys called them that. but it still doesn't make any sense!

Co-ed is easier than saying "College Babe/Hottie".

yeah, but since co-educational means both, you could be talking about a guy! haha! burn.

Actually
Dictionary defines co-ed as:

noun {C} US OLD-FASHIONED INFORMAL

a female student in a college with male and female students.

Great thread Currahee! You've caught me at a time when I was starting to mull over my passed year and look ahead to the next (my bday and new years are days apart so I often dwell on this stuff a bit this time of year).

Not sure about any particular resolution. I would like to simplify my life overall. With Sass quiting work soon and going to school this will happen financially no matter what. I havent done any serious volunteer work in a bout 3 years. Little bits here and there but I used to volunteer 3-5 hours per week for 6-7 years and I find that I miss helping folks out. I also realize the example I set for my daughter would be powerful. I am sure I'll find something to do if I look hard enough.

I would also like to finish up my house projects. We busted arse this week and are almost complete with everything. It'll be nice to live here and not work here.

As Dhutch mentioned, I too am planning on doing the 72 hour adventure race (with her) and that is a big life goal for me. The whole process will be (and already is) very rewarding.

1) To write Thank-You notes more consistently.

2) To determine what the "important" things in life are, and to cut out what's not important, thus not stressing myself out as much!

3) To "sucker" my boyfriend into marrying me. (His word, not mine!!)

:)

I was born at Ft. Campbell. Of course, I don't remember it, but I've wanted to visit to see the place where I was born. I suppose it's just like any other military base.
