I have thought about bringing my bike. Wonder which one would work best for the Virginia Creeper Trail.

paved with the flesh of those who have dared to attempt it.

Actually, I hear it is a pretty decent trail. I think the exact words were "even you could ride it, Hyway"

hyway that sounds like a fun seminar and hey...even a short hike. Would be the first hike for me during traildays. I normally get alot of walking done though because we walk like hundred times into town and back to camp. Well...if we don't hitchhike.

sorry u can't make it roamy. Dang kids! I betcha you rather want to be with us on trail days. hahahaha

I think Bison and I are going up to Mt Rogers on Friday for a dayhike. The Sat morning hike sounds good unless Fri night gets a little too crazy....

i'm actually debating this...

hmmmmm, i'm the coach of the team and if I go Trail Days i'll miss the last game of the year.

I'd also be tempted to bring Sarah with me which would mean she misses the last game as well.

If she misses the last game the team will be a player short.

But

they're 10 year old non-competitive league, so it's not like the world cup or anything.

She'll miss at least one day of school as well, but so what.

hmmmmm

still thinking.

well...keep thinking!!!
I think Sarah would really like Trail days...hell she did last year.

Me also think...we all could hike rogers and she coudl finally see it during nice weather (hopefully)

One player short ain't gonna kill a non comp. league. Prolly wouldn't be the first time it ever happend.

think!!!!!

yeah take her out of school so she can hang out with a bunch of alcoholics and druggies...lol

Hey, Trail Days is educational!

Thats what I told her principal last year when I picked her up from school early.

She's already asked if we're going this year and was kinda bummed when I said that I didn't think we were.

Dude, you know you wanna go... Bring Sarah with you (because you know she wants to go too) and we'll have a soccer game at Trail Days instead...

ok, yes Sarah wants to go. BUT she doesn't want to miss her last game either. And she doesn't want to miss the pizza party after the game.

I feel like I shouldn't bail on the last game either - (being responsible sucks)

So i suppose that we won't be attending after all.

:(

i was looking forward to seeing all you guys.

Creeper trail
The VCT is paved with crushed stone/ some cinders. I wouldn't recommend a road bike. I take my cyclecross bike, almost all others use fat tires (AKA mt bikes) The scout ride is a fund raiser. My flyer is around here somewhere. I think it starts at 9 am. Its a nice coast downhill from Whitetop station.

I might try to make this one, but I have to crutch around... my ankle is severely sprained. I am out of commission for weeks. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later... :|

smokygirl, that sucks....but you know how easy it is to catch a ride down town. I don't think you'll have problems at all to "crutch" around.

would be great if you could make it.

The important point thing is that it only effects your mobility, not your abilty to lift beverages to the proper drinking position.

hey hyway, what does everyone bring food wise. Is it a pitch in or fend for yourself. Can you build campfires where we camp at or bring a bping stove or coleman stove?

info please
Ewker
12:58:05 PM
4/29/05

You can do all those things.

We had our own campfire next to our group of tents. We also had tables and tarps. The group next to us had an extensive setup. Some folks just set up a tent and nothing else. Its car camping with teh exception that after you drop off your stuff you have to park your car a couple hundred yards away.

Last year I brought some food to eat (mostly snacks), plus 2 bushels of oysters. There are food venders in the park and restuarants in town. Most folks shared what they had. I think the rule ended up being if you put it on the table it was fair game :)

it looks like you can rent bikes in town for the bike ride. i know that is something that my son wants to do. not sure about myself with my knee . we will probably fly with our cooler and bring our chairs.
okay, so what is this drum circle that i saw on the agenda? and how late does the music go on? still haven't decided if we are camping in town or outside of town. anyone coming in thursday? we get into knoxville at 10:15am, figure we should be there around noonish.

I'm thinking about going to this....so is there any actual hiking or is it just a bunch of vendors hawking their wares? I'd like to see what it's all about but if it's a real zoo, maybe not.

it is basically a hikers version of a street fair except its in the park and not on teh street. There is a parade on the street though. Its a big party. It can be a zoo at the campgrounds.
