“I'm leaving...for Damascus Friday morning (tomorrow, May 6th). I'm hiking from Damascus to Bland, VA on the AT. Hopefully, I'll be done in time to drive back to Damascus and find ya'll and say hello before heading home. Ya'll be careful and have a great time!”

Personally, I prefer the daytime party and quiet at night. Since I am less than 2 hours away, I may show up Friday morning and claim some real estate at Ironhorse if that's going to be one of the spots.

You're fine if you are coming on Thursday! I can't really remember if they close the campground if it's getting too full. doubt it though. I have a big tent, but will bring my small one too...if it's getting to crowded i can always take the big one down and put a smaller one up... (room for one more)

“I think Cottonsocks is going to marinate duck strips, wrap it around water chestnuts, then wrap the whole thing with bacon to cook on the grill.

My propane stove has a grill section and I think it will work fine for this.

“nimblefoot called me from pearisburg yesterday. he hitched ahead from 22 miles back on the trail, which puts him right where i did my first nude-hiking of my trip last year (i just know you all wanted to know that). hes going to stay in pearisburg at the holy family hostel til i pick him up thursday night. i will be there with captain hook, which nobody here really knows but i think he has posted on this thread. cmb and spirit coyote know him. we'll probably try to stay in pearisburg thu nite and come up very early fri morn.

the one event (other than the parade, of course) that im looking forward to most is a talk by model t at the rock school auditorium. ive read just a small portion of his book and it sounds terrific. he is a fantastic writer. sort of like bill bryson, without the candy-ass. a talk by warren doyle (trail legend ~end sarcastic font~) on sunday morn should be interesting. ill probably stick around for that (even if the guy is known as a self-aggrandizing tool in thru-hiker circles). theres another talk sometime this weekend called THOROUGH hiking, as opposed to THROUGH or THRU hiking that sounds very interesting.

i am so fcking pumped for this i can hardly contain myself. 2005 has been a very stressful year for me, plus missing the trail life, so i need this release. i can already feel myself getting highly emotional reuniting with old friends. beagle, moo juice, the walking stomach, little tree, party girl, i love and miss you all and i cant wait to see you!

“im very excited about the parade. it really touches me and makes me feel special that this little town in the foothills of virginia holds a celebration and parade just for me and 5000 of my closest friends. im going to the toy store today and buying the biggest pump action water gun i can find. im gonna get everybody wet and spend the rest of the weekend hugging and crying :-D”

“ive been doing some mapquesting and some figuring. kokomo to dayton to pearisburg is about 8 1/2 hours. i wont be leaving kokomo until about 6pm est. that puts me in pearisburg about 230am est, with almost 2 hrs to damascus. do you think hook and i could put our tents up on the lawn for a few hours and catch a few zzzzz's? if so, i would like to do that, but i would still want to bug out early (like around 630). or we could just plow straight thru to damascus. sorry to make this a red-eye trip, but i do not want to miss the talk by model t.”
