Trail Days 2005

My daughter asked me the other day if we were going to Trail Days this year. I said "Honey, I sure hope so".

Who wants to pick me up at an airport within a reasonable car ride to Damascus?”

“I'll be starting on my thru hike March 5th. I don't have any idea where my pace/distance/time will have me with respect to Trail Days, but I sure would like to attend. Looking for someone to carry me was intended as a joke...someone to actually meet me on the trail, put me on their back...etc. I hope to see you there, but don't think I'll really need a ride.

Today's adventure is to go out and find a really conspicuously dorky hat to wear on the trail...one can never be too dorky.”

“nf, you should be well past damascus by the time trail days hits. i started a little more than 2 weeks after your planned start date, and i was all the way to bland, va the tuesday before trail days. youll probably be closer to shenandoah than you will be damascus. but no worries. i found it very easy to get hitch a ride. also, talk to miss janet. im sure she could find someone in her vast network of trail friends to pick u up. also, if you do some trail work with bob peoples, youre guaranteed a ride back to the trail”

“If you fly to Philadelphia, I could pick you up. I know it's kind of a long way from Damascus, but it's really the only bigger city along the way there for me. Talk to me, or if you can make Nashville work, that might be better.

I heard that Trail Days was killer last year and am totally fixing to go...”

“Or, Nimblefoot, if Roam doesn't do Philadelphia (I can't see why he would considering it's 500 miles from Damascus), talk to me. I'll be driving down I-81 in Virginia, which the AT roughly parallels, so I should be able to pick you up at just about any road crossing/trail town along the way.”

“Roam, if its cheaper to do Raleigh/Durham (sometimes they have good deals) I could pick you up on the way. Its still about 4 more hours to Damascus, but the offers there if you need it.”

“I think those are teh "official" days for the vendor show and town sanctioned activities. People start showing up earlier than that.”

“yeah, that's how it is roam, I think all together is like a week or so. I've been there once for the "BIG" yard sale. Thinking I can get lots of gear. SHhhttt..there wasn't really anybody selling gear. I got my favorite parfum for $10, what normally cost me over $90... but that's not why I drove all the way up there.”

“I am excited....going to take a day or two vacation!!!wooo hoooo.....maybe leave after work Wed (1pm) and take 2 days to drive up!!!”
