The Pennsylvania backpacking/hiking Chal lenge 2005View Messagesnew and from PA “I thought I would post to this message beacuse I am from PA... NEPA to be exact and I just created my account today. Good to know there are lots of PAers with lots of PA plans, love hiking close to home! I would tell you a little about myself, but I don\'t know what to tell. I love the outdoors and that\'s all there really is to it. last edited: 1/08/05 11:38:55 PM” 11:37:29 PM 1/08/05 “Start with are you m/f? if male, are you single and hot? Are you a fire fighter who knows how to put a fire out with his hose? Are you acop who's good with cuffs? hmm? Its ok too if your jsut the UPS man so long as your wear tose brown shorts or even a milkman....give us something :D last edited: 1/08/05 11:43:05 PM” 11:40:20 PM 1/08/05 “Ok, I'm female...but I am hot! Sorry to disappoint you though. :( I am not single, in fact I'm almost married. I work in a group home for adults with mental retardation which is way stressful, so I like to get out as much as possible.” 11:45:29 PM 1/08/05 “I hear ya! Sometimes I worjk on the scary ward of hte hospital where everyone is very "confussed".. Well, as long as you can hike, spit and fartr your one of us :D welcome.” 11:48:59 PM 1/08/05 “I'm a great spitter and farter!!” 11:51:39 PM 1/08/05 “Welcome Troll (don't take that personal)I also work with the geriatric population, and yes it can be very stressful. Ok, less bs more hiking. There is a day hike in your area tommorrow up Mt. Minsi to Totts Gap, check out the thread and lose your troll status on your first day on the board! * PS, the date on the thread title reads 1/8/05, but has been changed to 1/9/05. last edited: 1/08/05 11:54:46 PM” 11:53:23 PM 1/08/05 “hey, theres prolly more TT folks in PA than any other state (except CA). I've met several of them, and I'd say your in really good company up there. well, except for that EarthNSky guy - watch out for him. j/k welcome - you almostmarriedreallyhothikerspitterfarter! last edited: 1/08/05 11:54:28 PM” 11:54:10 PM 1/08/05 “hey Roam, I resemble that remark” 12:29:20 AM 1/09/05 “lol :)” 1:50:15 AM 1/09/05 “Pleased to meet you CJ.. There are a lot of us in PA and Phantom Soul, even though he is from Jersey, tells people he is from PA. PA is second to Tennessee in terms of the most TTers. I think CA is after PA.” 10:00:52 AM 1/09/05 “well i'm excited to be amongst such wonderful company... ENS I'm interested in the Rickets Glenn thing, which would be an exciting first outing with the TTers.” 12:07:21 PM 1/09/05 “ENS, Currahee and everyone else, one of PA's most interesting backpacking trails lies near york and lancaster- the conestoga trail. this is a 62 mile trail, but only the southern 20 miles are really for backpacking. this unique trail follows the rim above the susquehanna river gorge with numerous excellent views, awesome gorges filled with cascades, rock outcrops and rhododendron jungles (particularly tucquan and kelly run; kelly run is AMAZING), and a cave! wind cave is along the trail. the only place for backcountry camping is reeds run. The susquehanna is a huge river that has carved down into the piedmont creating a 500 foot deep gorge. many of the side streams feature beautiful gorges, cascades, rapids, rock outcrops and rhododendron. www.conestogatrail.org PA does offer so much. My book will soon be published and is now listed on amazon.com.” 11:29:22 AM 1/10/05 “Kewlness! Ok, I'll help sell your book: Link to Jmitch's book, Backpacking Pennsylvania: 37 Great Hikes” 11:57:45 AM 1/10/05 “If anyone wants to hike the Conestoga Trail - southern section - later this year, I may consider joining up. This one literally passes through my backyard. I've done dayhikes on it around Susquehannock State Park, the Pinnacle Overlook, and we even use Reed's Run as a dry-run overnighter for our first year scouts to try out a short backpack trip. last edited: 1/10/05 3:07:56 PM” 3:06:21 PM 1/10/05 Conestoga Trail “I might do a dayhike on this trail in a few weeks. It sounds pretty interesting and is a quick trail to get out on last minute.” 3:56:07 PM 1/10/05 Jmitch “the book looks awesome and I will definitely be getting a copy of it. Who are those goof balls on the cover?” 4:08:28 PM 1/10/05 Conestoga dayhike anyone “I think I may put up a trip for Sunday January 30th to do a day hike on this trail. I may try for a 20 mile section, which is a lot, but I think it is doable. we'll see. last edited: 1/10/05 4:17:17 PM” 4:13:40 PM 1/10/05 “i'd also like to get back to the conestoga trail. i think the distance from the bridge to pequea campground is less than 15 miles.” 4:23:24 PM 1/10/05 “I can't go backpacking this weekend due to being sick, but I may be up for a dayhike somewhere in eastern PA if anyone is interested. Lemme know.” 11:05:54 AM 1/14/05 “I was looking to do the same. Preferably on Saturday. Besides, I want in on this PA challenge thing. I was going to do the Maryland trip this weekend, but my birthday is Sunday and the wife vetoed it !!” 1:21:34 PM 1/14/05 “Where in PA are you CP? I'm in Lancaster. I was thinking about the conestoga trail, or doing something a little cooler up north. Lemme know what you're thinking.” 2:07:42 PM 1/14/05 “Walnutport. right at the Lehigh Gap on the A.T. I need to do sections of the A.T. from swatra gap to boiling springs. Its on my things to do list for the year. would you wanna section hike one of those ?” 3:21:10 PM 1/14/05 “I am heading up to Hickory Run state park this morning to meet a buddy to hike the trails. If you want to join us, call my cell 610-360-9105. We will be up there till mid afternoon.” 6:34:30 AM 1/15/05 “Crazy Pace, sorry I wasn't able to go. I still am not feeling well enough to hike this weekend.” 11:06:12 AM 1/15/05 “Good thing you didnt. 3" of snow - 28 deg and the worst trail conditions I ever had. That big ice storm that hit the poconos knocked down so many trees, that you couldnt go ten feet without going over, around, under or a complete detour. We still got in about 8 miles, but it was a tough 8. Next weekend there is a trip to sunfish pond in NJ, there is about 5 people going. Let me know if you want in. Leave friday night with 3 mile night hike. come back sunday afternoon.” 11:45:38 AM 1/16/05 “I'm going to the Catskills for a winter peakbagging trip, but thanks for the offer. Did you take any pictures?” 11:50:31 AM 1/16/05 “My buddy did. He will e-mail them tomorrow.” 12:20:15 PM 1/16/05 Off Topic “I don't remember Sunfish Pond being in Pennsylvania. What's it doing on this thread? Has someone redrawn the state lines? Nah, I'm just kidding; as you were.... :~)” 9:32:45 PM 1/16/05 “Less than a week until we embark on our snowwy adventure to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon via the West Rim Trail. I seriously can't wait.” 7:12:11 AM 2/26/05 “Go man, go!” 2:38:30 PM 2/26/05 Enter: March “I've got a 5X Pennsylvania Combo going here... Wahoo!” 2:43:09 PM 2/26/05
