Since a couple of days my car stereo sounds like crap. I hear a rattling sound I guess....not sure what the hell it is, sounds really bad though.

Could it be anything else? CDs are fine, besides they can't all #&%!$ up at the same time.

What good is my stereo doing me if I can't play my music loud...whhhaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Don't want to spend money on a speaker if it's something else.

If it sounds like crap it might be rap (sort of sounds like a line in a rap song).

Speaking of which... hehehe PUNNY!... how much might a person spend to replace speakers? My left front speaker is crap.

Actually, since the ole 88 Cherokee only has a radio in it, I could use a CD player/radio.

Ideas on what to do and number of greenbacks required? LOL! I had both driven with the personal CD player headphones stuck in my ears, with hair hiding them. I've also played a portable boombox. Poor POOR ME!! LOL

depending on what type of stereo unit u have would depend on how much your speakers could potentialy cost.

If you have just a basic unit in your car I would just go and buy some Pioneers from Wally World.... I wouldn't spend too much money otherwise

one word of advice...what probably caused your speakers at high volume wasn't too much power but too much distortion at low frequencies (too much bass)...

if you do replace the speakers I would recommend installing in-line bass-blockers which are usually about $10 a pair but help protect your speakers...

I think you guys are assuming us gals have someone who can put the speakers in. OK, maybe the quoteable Gemini does... :-) LOL! ... but I don't. I suppose Nimblefoot might make the hike to my place as training for his AT hike, but... WTF DOES HE KNOW ABOUT HOOKING UP SPEAKERS?!??

Yeah... I thought so... LOL! Not a prerequisite for the AT hike, now is it??

How much does installation set one back?

Good !!!
I don't want to sound mean, but loud speakers are annoying. I don't want to listen to your music going full volume at a gas station or from my house. It appears VERY inconsiderate to others.

gem.... your speakers have been blown out : )

congrats and welcome to the club of factory stereo systems....

i spent about 200 bucks replacing the speakers and head unit of my old car, but that's cause i couldn't afford much at the time.

kenwood is an awesome brand.

if you need to have them installed, drive up to PA and i'll do it for you LOL... otherwise, the place that sells the speakers to you will normally do it.

Any teenage motor-heads in the neighborhood? That'd be thrilled to get to help you out. Speaker prices are modest.

hmmm, I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on speakers right now. Wish I could, but I can't... All I want is one speaker, at least for now. Scorch...would be worth a trip up to PA huh? we could go out afterwards. I think I can install the speaker once I figure out how in the hell to remove the dashboard.

DASHBOARD...that was teh word I was looking for last night... I hate when that happens.

AND my music is not annoying. Limpy may has a good idea...I am sure we have some kids in the neigborhood that like to make a couple $$. If not I'll call circut city.

After my trip and dentist crap I'll get me an awesome stereo so I can turn up my music if louder. :P

buy in pairs. It can be cheaper than you think. (You just want servicable speakers, right?)

serviceable; suited to the purpose. Not high end "bells & whistles" speakers. Just your everyday normal (boring) speaker.
Plain. Cheap.

a mitsubishi eclipse. I think everything in it is sort of "rain proof" because it's a spider.

Limpy...yeah servicable is good then. I don't want speakers that sound bad though, but I don't want them to cost a fortune.

Try crutchfield. www.crutchfield.com

They include all hardware and installation instructions. Some speakers are easy, some are difficult. On my van I had to drop the steering column and pull the whole dash pad off to put in some POLK audio speakers. They were ~ $80 and VERY worth the expense and trouble.

P.S. They will tell you how difficult the installation is over the phone, first, if you ask.

gem, get speakers in pairs or the sound won't be balanced.

yea, come up to pa, we'll install them and then go out for the weekend!

yeah, pair would be okay, but it's the one speaker on the dashboard... no pair. I think I have 6 speakers in the car, 2 tinny ones by the mirrors (doors) and 2 more in the doors, one on the dashboard, and I don't know where the other one is...(didn't look for it yet) I may have 2 more in the back, not sure sure. It's a infinity stereo, not sure about the speakers.

maybe it's not a speaker...maybe it's a subwoofer?? what would that do to the sound? I have no clue about stereos.

so circut city looked at it and they don't have the size...anyway...it's a suround sound speaker on the dashboard. I did check, and yes, my car is a 2001 Mitsubishi. Not sure why they are listed to not have a speaker on the dashboard.

I thought it would be a good idea to let someone else install the speaker because it is on the dashboard. (not sure how to take the complete dashboard apart)

no one really knows about dashboards huh? I can't find any info in my mitsubishi manual.

they call it tweeter?? wtf is a tweeter?
