Northern CA TripsView Messages“I did go to Sonoma and Napa, but that was for wine tastings:) That was a lot of fun.” 12:24:11 AM 2/28/05 “Lipstick, did you go off the Coast Trail and down to the beach at the falls or walk to the falls along the beach from the campground? The over the falls way is scary to me, but I've done it. The rock seems crumbly. Pepper, I've never been to Bothe-Napa. That would be great. Those dates are good, too.” 8:15:04 AM 2/28/05 “Checking in. :') Glad you all enjoyed your hikes. I enjoyed your trip reports. Just as well I didn't go. My daughter (Nicole 21) was having a delima (many delimas in fact) that needed my attention. We spent most of the weekend together. But I did get in some possitive time at the fitness center. Tried the "Cycle" class. What an a$$ kicker. Gonna keep doing that one. Pepperdog, according to the calender, the first day of spring is on March 20th, which is the same weekend you and Shamus are planning to hike to Bothe-Napa. Yeah, I'm so ready for spring. I will see what my schedule holds closer to that date.” 8:41:59 AM 2/28/05 Hite Cove wildflowers April 9, then Yosemite “Forgive me for not posting on the trip page. I figure for day hikes and short trips, only locals would be interested, but all are welcome. Landscaper and I are going to day hike Hite Cove the weekend of April 9th or that Monday if no one wants to join us on Saturday. Hite Cove is accessed from hwy 140 about half way between Midpines and the entrance to Yosemite Valley. The following weekend, there is a Yosemite-sponsored wildflower photography hike there, so I'm counting on spectacular blooms. We have been there at blossom time before, and it is incredible. There is also old mining equipment, and the trail is along the Merced River, first above, then dropping down. We have reserved a car camping site in Yosemite for Sat and Sun, and it accepts 2 cars/6 people, so anyone is welcome to stay there with us 1 or both nights. The waterfalls should be great.” 9:38:07 AM 3/02/05 Finally! “Just now am getting the chance to post a trip report. Saturday was great. wannabp and landscaper were very friendly and we all had a great time...I think. 7 hours is just enough time to tell your life story in every mundane detail so hopefully they won't run the other direction when they see me coming next time:-) But wannabp and I enjoyed taking our pictures. She is really into the wildflowers and took some beautiful shots. It's interesting to hike with another photographer, taking different shots of the same subject. It's enlightening to see how they see a scene. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park is fairly close to San Francisco, but wasn't too busy. I recommend this hike for anyone wanting a nice dayhike that's got nice views without too many people. Here's some pics for your viewing pleasure. ![]() ![]() last edited: 3/02/05 5:20:15 PM” 5:18:17 PM 3/02/05 “wannabp, I hiked the trail right down to the falls and we had lunch by the falls. Yeah, that "trail" is really not a trail at all when you get to the falls. You may as well just jump off the cliff to the beach, lol:)” 7:27:10 PM 3/02/05 “DocNice, glad to see you posting. I was beginning to worry about the directions Jerry gave you. And, no, we won't run when we see you. We had fun. Your fungus picture is way better than mine. The angle does it. I'm goin' try that. Lipstick Hiker, yep, that's the "trail."” 7:32:17 PM 3/02/05 “Bump. Look at the Hite Cove trip several posts back. I can't say enough about the beauty when the flowers are blooming. Do a web search.” 2:41:45 PM 3/03/05 “It looks like a nice trip wanna. I'm probably painting my house in March so I'll be ready for a nice hike and camp like that. heck maybe we can run up the hill and snow shoe too. Count me in.” 4:41:46 PM 3/03/05 “JVZ, I'm glad you can come. Are you looking at Hite Cove on Saturday, snow on Sunday? last edited: 3/03/05 6:10:00 PM” 6:09:02 PM 3/03/05 “That sounds possible. I can take Monday off and not worry about being home early on Sunday.” 9:43:17 PM 3/03/05 “Great. We originally planned to drive up Sat, but wanted to include TTers who might only be able to make a Sat. Let's see who can come and when.” 2:52:14 AM 3/04/05 “Anyone else interested?” 9:39:58 AM 3/04/05 “I've put it down on my calander. Sounds great to me. I'll have to see what's going on between now and then. So put me down for a possible yes.” 9:58:57 AM 3/05/05 “Songbyrd, I'm glad you can (maybe) come. Which days are you thinking? Hiking Hite Cove Sat or Sun? last edited: 3/05/05 11:18:52 AM” 11:17:47 AM 3/05/05 “I would probably want to go for the same duation as you and Jerry, which I think you said Sat. and Sun. nights leaving on Monday. So whichever day you plan to hike would be fine. Can I bring Kris? Hey DocNice, Can you tell me what I need to do to post photos on a thread like you did above? I have tried all I know and it refuses to work for me.” 9:07:55 AM 3/06/05 “Songbyrd, we're actually staying Monday night at the Bug Hostel, also, and driving back Tuesday. We can drive up Friday, hopefully get a room at the hostel, and hike Hite Cove on Saturday before driving up to Yosemite. Of course, Kris can come. It'll be nice to see her again. The camp site allows 2 cars and 6 people. I expect we can figure out something to do if we have an extra car. JVZ is also coming.” 11:37:19 AM 3/06/05 Hite Cove wildflowers April 9, then Yosemite “Just want to get this out there again. This is the perfect time of year for this area. Details. Meet at the Bug Hostel, on your right just off Hwy 140 in Mid Pines, on Sat, April 9th. (Would 9 AM work?) Caravan to the Hite Cove TH. Day hike Hite Cove, 9.0 miles round trip. Wildflowers galore, fascinating rock formations, old mining equipment. Drive the rest of the way to Yosemite where we have a car camping site for Sat and Sun nights. Undecided details. Sunday, we could do a day hike in the valley or drive to Badger Pass and snowshoe. The waterfalls should be at their peak, so I sort of favor that, but we could see them Mon before leaving, if we want to snowshoe on Sun. Just in case. The campsite allows 2 cars and 6 people. We're almost full. There are still sites available at Yosemite. If more people are interested soon, they could also reserve a site. Ours is in the North Pines campground.” 12:17:30 PM 3/06/05 “Bump for Bear Crossing.” 4:29:47 PM 3/07/05 “I'll run this by Kat and see if she feels like going. songbyrd, You'll need to host your image somewhere, all by itself, (rather than on a page). Then you'll want to type in [ img]http://YourURL.com/YourPictureName.jpg[/img] Without the spaces of course.” 4:46:14 PM 3/07/05 “Doc, it'd be nice to meet her. Can't you just right click on your image where it's hosted and get the URL, then copy and paste the URL into TT, then select and click on the Img tab?” 6:02:04 PM 3/07/05 “Right click, copy and paste is what I did before and I am the only one that could see it. I will try what DocNice said next. The plans above sound good to me. I will see if Kris wants to go with me. JVZ, are you carpooling with anyone else?” 6:34:24 PM 3/07/05 “Songbyrd, are you starting with Webshots? Somehow, they prevent the process so people must go to their site. If Doc's method doesn't work, try using Comcast's web service. I haven't, but I think it's part of what we get with Comcast.” 9:07:07 PM 3/07/05 “I will be in Yosemite the week before... But who knows, maybe I'll be up to this trip, too :) Thanks for bumping this up for me!” 9:59:43 PM 3/07/05 “keep in mind.....first day of spring.....bothe-napa park.....” 12:06:49 AM 3/08/05 “Bear Crossing, stop by Hite Cove while you're there, if you can. And it would be nice to meet you in person, if you can swing by Yosemite 2 weeks in a row. Pepper, and the first day of spring is????” 9:03:38 PM 3/08/05 “Wannabp, The first day of spring is Sunday the 20th. Pepperdog is referring that we may have a big crowd on our hike that weekend. Although, the big guided spring wildflower hike is the following weekend. Right?” 8:38:29 AM 3/09/05 Do ya see anything 8:54:02 AM 3/09/05 “I have to back out of the April 9 trip. A family kinda get together thing came up and if I want to be a part of my family I have to stick around and enjoy myself. There is beer and food involved so I can make the best of it. My heart is really in the hiking and wildflowers and photo op though. I'll miss it and you all.” 9:05:22 AM 3/09/05 “BOOHOO, We will miss you. Try to have fun and we'll take lots of pictures for you.” 9:35:20 AM 3/09/05 “Songbyrd, I see a free Snapfish account page........... Is that what you meant to post? JVZ, family is important, so pack up the beer and food and bring them along. Well, if that won't work, we'll show you our photos.” 12:46:07 PM 3/09/05 “OK thanks for that. I'll get out there soon.” 12:59:54 PM 3/09/05 “no, that's not it.” 8:10:57 PM 3/09/05 “Theresa, DocNice (if you and Kat come), do you want to snowshoe on Sunday? Jerry wants to snowshoe to Dewey Point.” 8:35:23 PM 3/10/05 “The snowshoe offer sounds tempting but I would need to head home on Sunday.” 7:45:12 AM 3/11/05 “Thanks for the invite, but I'll have a hard time convincing Kat to snowshoe anytime ever, much less right after the weather finally turns warm!” 12:56:34 PM 3/11/05 “Doc, I know. It seems weird to me, too. You could spend the day in the valley, if you want. Theresa, is Kris coming?” 11:05:01 PM 3/11/05 “She (Kris) is going to check her schedule. Maria is going to check hers too if there's room. We just returned from Pt. Reyes last night. Had a great time. Was myself, Kris, Maria and her son. Should have photos up today on webshots. last edited: 3/14/05 8:48:01 AM” 8:46:54 AM 3/14/05 “There should be room.” 8:26:14 PM 3/14/05 “Karen, No one will ride up with me so I'm gonna pass. I don't travel that far alone. I will go to the Lake Natoma picknick instead. I will email you as well to make sure you get this.” 8:16:55 PM 4/03/05 “Hi, Theresa, we'll take lots of wildflower pictures, then snow pictures, then waterfall pictures. And, we'll turn to where you would have been to say, "Wow, did you see that?" Then we'll post it all when we're home. We'll miss you, but I understand. I hate to have to drive so far.” 1:11:58 AM 4/04/05
