It probably wouldn't be bad if it was for something you liked. Say, your local outfitter. Maybe grab a new set of boots then rip the place because they have people working there with no interest in the outdoors and no knowledge of the products they're selling.

Is this a real job?

I need some new underwear. If they don't fit you have to take them back.

no it's like for gas stations, mcd's, church's chicken, sonic. you are told to get 5 bucks in gas and rate the store on lots of stuff, such as service, signage, etc. the food stuff they have you get a kids meal, and a chicken sandwhich...it's a pain...they want you to cover huge areas, 5 places a day..all for 5 bucks in gas, and a kids meal

When I worked as an Optician we were occasionally "shopped" to make sure we were offering the customers everything the corporate office said we were to "push" on them. The shopper got paid and also got to keep the glasses. We always regarded it as a joke since it had little to do with the customers real needs.

I do this as a sideline, Scott. I pass up the small jobs and have been getting lots of offers for the higher paying shops, making this rather worthwhile for me. I have been doing video shops at car dealers, which have paid pretty well. The downside is the loss of brain cells inflicted upon me listening to these guys try and sell me cars. So, depending on how you go about it, you can make some decent bucks in your off time. Call me about it, Scott...

We use a mystery shopping program for our business. Each restaurant gets visited nce every other day. We pick up the tab (for two) and I think they get $15 for their time.

The dealer shops I am doing average between 60 and 80 apiece. I have 5 coming up in the next 2 weeks, so it adds up...

With these, there are no reports to fill out. I do wear a hidden camera and tape them instead...

Hey, it's a supplemental living without being bound to the strict hours of a second job, macho man!

Some of us are not benefitting from the economy as much as you are. Some of us have to work a little extra to make ends meet. You are fortunate enough to have enough money to keep yourself in guns and booze!

Having given this some more thought. I might be the perfect secret shopper. Getting free stuff and getting paid for eating or shopping would not deter me from giving an honest opinion.

I don't think a poor, hungry man with a limited education can be objective under these circumstances.

Scott, that prick posted 8 times out of the 20 posts on here and offered up nothing but insults. So, f_ck him. Listen up. You know as well as I do that we are talking about picking up a few extra bucks, not making a primary living out of it. The jobs are usually easy and you can accept those that fit into your schedule. What they are looking for are people that can pay attention to pre-determined details and write them up coherently. bbw, I don't think this would be good for you as they are usually looking for people that don't sign their names with an 'X'. Besides, you are too macho for this concept. Perhaps taxidermy would be a good sideline for you.

Scott, you can take some of the little jobs and just write up good reports and they will start filtering down the better paying ones your way. I have been turning a lot away as I don't have the time to do all of the ones offered.

Nimblefoot, I was an optician too. And I also got secret shopped. I didn't rate well because I told the customer that their lenses were already UV coated and she shouldn't pay an extra $15 for it, lol.

CB,
My mom-in-law worked as a secret shopper for awhile. The bottem line was that it wasn't enough $ to compinsate her for her time. It wasn't the shopping itself that took alot of time but the reports she had to fill out afterwards. She's not a dolt who agonized over the forms either, but a retired teacher.

tree and myself do airport shops every other month. in one day we can clear $500.00
plus we get to spend the day together.
I take jobs that I will enjoy. I also take jobs like going to the grocery store were I will get paid to do a shop. so I can spend say $50.00 and get paid back half that.
not bad. plus I like doing Modell's. I get paid to shop and I get paid back say about $10.00 or something like that. I get free gear!!

Treebeard & all...
"As you said... You know as well as I do that we are talking about picki"ng up a few extra bucks"...

As I say... no need to have to justify what you or I or any of us do to survive... we do what we gotta do! No shame in ANY job as far as I'm concerned... at least we're working and not sucking off the "system" as so many do. I could "collect unemployment" and make more than I am at my part time job but I prefer to work! Something about "self-worth" and "self esteem". You can call me crazy... but not lazy.

I work only part time (3 days/week) right now at Dick's Sporting Goods (my dive charter business is pretty slow during the winter here in NE) and my wife works 3 days at Brigham & Womans Hospital in Boston. She can make more on her three 12 hour days than I can make in 3 weeks at the store, so I'm a stay at home Dad on my days off. It's just a matter of economics.

What am I gonna do, make her quit her job so I can go work for $10/hr??? Or have her keep her job, work full time and send the kids to daycare??? The daycare for the 2 kids would cost more than I make... and then someone else is raising my kids!

No... everyone does what they gotta do and as long as someone is working... no matter what they do... I respect that!

Peace out man...
Capt. Jim

ps: BBW you of all people can call anyone "A disgruntled looser with an axe to grind?" HA HA... that's ironic!

I used to do this Scott. Barbie's father runs this business out of his basement. I worked for him when he was most successful. He had all the Mickey D's in the Chicagoland area for about 4 years.

It was easy work.

That's the one I started from, Nigal. I now just get a lot of e mails daily nd pick and chose what I want to do. Like I said, I m doing these car dealers and videotaping the sell without their knowledge. No reports and they pay very well. Averaging about 20 to 30 dollars per hour spent on them...

Do you work for just one company or pick and choose from a whole network? I'm really interested in this but the choices are just overwelming. Help a bratha out?

Here's one BBW. They specialize in bars, restaurants, gold courses and hotels.

I always wondered if the secret shopper companies were legit-- saw some, but they required $35-$50 to sign up... was wondering if the companies were making the fast buck, vs. the Secret Shoppers....

Although, on one of the TV shows a few weeks ago was a woman who used to be a stockbroker on Wall street who mystery shops as her primary income now-- and she lives in Beverly Hills AND gets to shop lots of ritzy places.... She said that her income was pretty respectable....
