Adventure Hiking Trail -- March 4-6

“it looks like most of you are gonna hit the trail at noon that Friday. How far are you guys hiking in before you camp? If you are going in 5-6 miles or more I may bail on this trip.

Unless I can get that day off (which I doubt) it will be around 10:00 to 11:00 Pm before I can get to the trailhead. I don't want to hike on a trail at night that people have said is easy to get lost on during the daytime.”

“Maybe you could meet up with someone else coming in late?”

“Ewker, that was my point in suggesting we start on the north section of the trail. We could still hike 5-6 miles southwest and end up near a trailhead that night. There are several trailheads with parking on the western side of the trail.”

“Hey IJ, what's the nearest town for weather checks? I looked on my map but A: didn't spend enough time looking or B:missed where it said what's closest.”

“Would it be White Cloud?”

“Corydon, IN

If you're looking for a bigger city its about halfway between Evansville, IN and Louisville, KY. You should be able to find local network weather for both those cities.”

“388 miles to Corydon. Did I mention I'm excited?”

“Does anyone know how long of a drive corydon is from south bend, I was planning a car pool for anyone near me so we can save gas and make the trip down less boring ;-)

“I know it takes me about 4 hours from Gary (top of I-65) to the Indiana/Kentucky border if that gives you an idea. I suppose you could mapquest it.”

“It's 290 miles from Elkhart according to MS streets & trips.”

“We'll drive I75 through Ohio, then I71 to 64. If anyone in Ohio wants to hop in the car you're more than welcome!”

“I like how I-65 North ends. Your sailing along then Bam a friggin red light...lol

Now to get that Friday off...”

If'n I can't get in Friday, I'll try to catch up with you Sat morning.”

“Has anyone figured out that half the fun of these trips is the posting leading up to the hike. We all act like we're hitting the trailhead tommorow! It's actually over a month away, but the good news is that we can go hiking before the AHT! Just an observation.....”

“LOL is that a hint golfhiker???”

“Not at all.. I just get a kick out of our collective enthusiasm. This should be a great hike with a potential large crowd of diverse bpers. It's fun already!”

“Sass, about what time do you plan on hitting I-71? I put in at work to be off at noon. I can alway's bring my gear and hop on the next bus towards the interchange.”

“Silent J, we are planning on heading out at about 6am EST. Prolly hit 71 around 11 am or so. Where will you be, we can be flexible for sure. Is the AHT central time?”

“Birch, the AHT is on Eastern time”

“Silent J, I think we're all supposed to be meeting up at the trailhead around noon, is there a chance you could get off alittle bit earlier?”

“SilentJ is in? Awesome. I'll see you guys late at camp that night.”

“Sorry, I was getting ahead of myself thinking I wouldn't have to get a rental, but I forgot about my dog. I'm an idiot ;^) I can't take him to work, on the bus, and I'm sure you guys probably wouldn't appreciate the hair hound tagging along.”

“I don't have any problems with dogs. And if you can get him to work and get off early enough s/he can come in the car too. We have two crazy dogs, just can't take them both hiking because they go absolutely NUTS together and won't listen to their owners, plus one of them never stops bouncing around camp, yipping ( sounds, and drives everyone bonkers. We would take the nice, quiet one but that leaves one at home, very lonely and sad.”

If that doesn't work out, I may be able to help. How is your dog with other dogs?

I haven't solidified my schedule but if we get in later we can catch up if need be. Don't be scared, I may be a stranger, but only a little strange.”

IJ - you have any idea how far Corydon is from Milltown?”

“Upluver, Milltown is just a few miles from the trail Just on the other side of I-64. Last time we were hiked the trail we went to Milltown Tavern for a bear and grub on Sunday after the hike.

Why, whats in Milltown?”

“My dogs pretty well behaved. He's the best kid I've got. I take him out without a leash and he usually doesn't bother others. The only real problem he has is begging. The previous owner used to feed him human food and he still expects it. He doesn't get it at my house and I hate the fact he does it on the trail but he'll usually lay down at my feet when I tell him too. The good news is that a fairly strenous hike will chill him out and he'll mostly sleep at camp. I got a picture of his lazy ass out at Zaleski sleeping in some leaves on my TT picture page.

Silent, I only asked because putting two dogs that are strangers to each other in the back of my Explorer could be a disaster. Maybe it's not such a good idea.”
