Adventure Hiking Trail -- March 4-6

“IJ: See what you started? Every hiker in a 4 state area is going to descend on this wonderful section of Southern Indiana. Hiking will be fun, tents will be spread everywhere, (name tags optional), and you will definetely need to come up with a cool name for the hike! One thing for sure, the shelters on the AHT are dinky, and only the fastest hikers in the group ( not me) will get a spot, so be prepared to tent it! Details, details.”

“We're going to rate all hikers by speed. The faster hikers get a handicap rock placed in their pack at the start of the trail.”

“...looks like I'll be bringing my tent.”

“Me too. I hate having to wait for the crowd to pass so I can tinkle. ;)”

“Foot is good. Been excercising again, (no running allowed yet...sigh) and even found a pair of hiking shoes I think will work.”

“Hey Golfhiker, we seem to be pretty good at bushwacking, maybe we can just take a shortcut and beat everyone that way! :)”

“UP: some call it bushwacking, I call it getting lost... Although we did get back to the car as advertised!”

“Buddah, have we decided when we're driving down? What's your schedule like? I can go down on Thursday and do the whole loop, or I can go down on Friday and do a partial. What are you thinking?”

“Woohoo, I got my map in the mail last night. I'm 90% sure I'll be there, around 1:00 PM Indiana time on Friday.”

“I better get a map, huh?”

“yeah you had because you will be leading the pack..oh wait Birch is going so you two can lead the way esp with way yall hike ;)”

“When I send the e-mail do I just call it the Adventure Trail? I wonder if the people there are getting suspicious of this large number of requests???

Yeah, Ewker I may have to run part of it to get my workout in ;-P It's pretty hilly, right?”

“Most of Indiana is pretty flat, at least the areas I have been in. I do know they have some hills but not sure of the elevation.”

“I pulled this from a post by gforce on the Knobstone which is just a few miles north of the AHT . . . the most difficult section of trail in Indiana that included 3,150' of total ascent and 3,400' of total descent . . . all in 11.5 miles.

The AHT is a little milder but it can still give you a workout.”

“I am going to call off work on Friday for this one.It will nice to see how many water filters have been left behind by the one shelter by the small creek.Last time I was there I think I found 2.

“Even if I could make this trip, I doubt I would last. While dayhiking with Ruby this past Saturday, the other knee started acting up.

Look like I am going to have to have the gravy spigot installed in that one as well.”

“Whoa! CMB is really coming! I thought you had completely abandoned IN backpacking. It will be nice to see you and everyone else again...I'm PUMPED for this trip.”

“So, campfires allowed here? I need to know if I should pack my marshmallows or not.”

“Yes. They have fire rings at the shelters. Along with picnic tables.”

“Fire rings....bacon rings.... well Ill stop there :)”

“cool. Maybe birch'll pack in his dutch oven and we'll all make cookies!”

“The one thing is the shelters there are small.And water is sometimes very hard to find I think it would be wise to pack extra water unless people are going to be brave and climb down to the first creek which is also a good place to spend the first night.

“I think we're supposed to be caching water at some road before we start off Friday.”
