I'll tie some straps to it and have my dog drag it along. Lazy bastard doesn't even have a pack yet so he needs something to carry.

So seriously though, don't we all need to bring extra water to stash or is one lucky person gonna try to take care of it for everyone? Seems like it'd be easier to have everyone bring extra and then have a group go to the stash spot before we hike?

naw, i thought i'd just do a rain dance before we head out.

Water was scarce when I was there but it was still available in trickles. I'm wondering if the wet weather we're supposed to have up to this trip will give us all the water we need. We could probably call the ranger a day or two in advance and ask about the streams and creeks.

Shanedoggie got a new backpack for Christmas. His old one is up for grabs. I could bring it along if you want it. Large dog size.

Just let me know. :-D

Otis is a lab so if it looks like it will fit I'll be more than happy to take it.

Concerning water... There is a very GOOD chance that the streams will have water in March, and even though we may cache water for "back up" security, I really doubt if it will be needed. The normal place to cache is a wooded area near a road junction, and sadly it's not hard to find, as there are lot's of empty cartons, etc. from hikers who did not bother to take the container with them after replenishing their supply. Once IJ determines the exact starting spot & time, things like the direction, cacheing, and meet-up spot will all come together. Personally, I find that a milk jug is sufficent, then you just tie it on the pack & go....

Extra platies are nice; you can just roll them up and stuff them in your pack.

Sass: I meant I would put my cache water in a milk jug, cause I would not want to leave a good Platy in the woods for someone to find. I guess if you hide something well enough it would not matter. Me, I hide it & not find it.

We're going to get together to nail down a starting point and time this Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll post something later this week.

If a lot of people end up showing up for this do we all want to hike together or just head out in groups and meet up if we meet up. I'm thinking we'll set a leave time on Friday and a rendevous time and place for Friday night/Sat.morning and just stick to those. Anyone coming in at diff times can catch up or hike opposite direction: ...whatever.

Heading out in smaller groups sounds good to me Indiana John. It'll be nicer if we can spread out on the trail a bit. ~Sassafras

If we don't break up into smaller groups we are going to have to blaze a wider trail. We're going to look like a band of misfit boyscouts and run the risk of drying up any streams we come across trying to fill everyones water.

Even though I am still a maybe I think small groups are better. It would be nice if we could start at different spots to but yet get together at night.

dhutch, that would be great. I've got a wishlist somewhere that only seems to get bigger but now I can cross that off.

Yeah, I'm all for spreading out. It will let me sleep in while everybody gets a head start. ;^)

I always have a compass. :-) I was actually checking for some places to pick out and go off trail for a little fun. I'll think about it when I'm not running 103 degrees. My eyes might work better.

When I hiked the trail there was only 2 of us so we didn't need much space in the shelter, but I would say 4 people could fit comfortably and another 1 or 2 could be sqeezed in if need be. Here's a pic of 1 at an angle next to a tent.

CMB also has a pic on his site. It's the second photo down.

Please forgive me, but I would like to offer up a pair of hiking boots to the AHT TTers, just in case someone might be interested. If so, I'll bring them with me on 3/4 for a closer inspection. Mens Lowa Tanark Mid (2003) model, Nubuck leather. These were a back up pair for an AT Thru-hike, but never worn on trail. Approx. 25 mile in city break in, so they look like new. Size -US11, Euro 44 1/2. Paid $170, will sell for a reasonable offer ($100+)?. Don't miss this once in a life time offer, he he... Seriously, I don't mean to turn this into a gear sale, but one post (#284) can't hurt.... Thanks. See ya all on the AHT!

The two sites overlooking the Ohio River were pretty spacious. Indian Creek was rather small but I believe camping off trail is permitted so I'm sure we can find some place to put everybody if we run out of room. I think I'd rather sleep at a distance anyway if Snorlax, I mean Jerbear, is going to be there ;^)

I'm a snorer too(so I've been told) So's my doggie, that I know.

Maybe the trailhead will end up a regular swap meet. note to self: self, bring any gear you want to offer up.

Golfhiker, post your boots on the Used Gear Thread too, someone not on this trip might be interested.

Sadly, my girlfriend's grandma is likely on her death bed, so I really doubt I can make this trip. As much as I want to hike (and even as she says "go ahead"), I can't leave my girl right now.

If we get a miracle of a recovery, you all will encounter one of the most relieved hikers ever!
