Whoa, new Tarptents from HenryView MessagesCheck these babies out 5:36:01 PM 1/07/05 “BAD A$$!!!” 5:41:48 PM 1/07/05 “HC - as you know I have the Virga and recently had the bathtub floor installed. Haven't been able to check it out on a trip yet though. The improvment in being able to sit up would be really great. It was probably the only thing I really didn't like about mine.” 5:59:21 PM 1/07/05 “Very nice! Maybe it's time to trade mine in.” 6:08:48 PM 1/07/05 “Sweet! Definitely some improvements!” 6:11:19 PM 1/07/05 “Nice! I've gotta get the floor and screen connected on my Cloudburst.” 6:26:38 PM 1/07/05 “I hear ya, Nimble. I wonder if those who received their tarptents for the first time as holiday gifts are feeling a little perturbed. I asked for and received a tarp-type tent from another manufacturer as a gift for x-mas. I would have to think harder about my choice now that the new Shires tents are available. I probably would have still gone with what I have now, but what I like most about these new tents is the vent at the top.” 7:15:15 PM 1/07/05 “Hmmm, a little more weight, but a little more room. Not sure if I would go for the older or newer style if I had to make the choice. Nice to see his business thriving.” 8:46:42 AM 1/11/05 “Henry never fails to amaze me. Kewl Beans.” 8:51:33 AM 1/11/05 “I think my old tarptent is now for sale.” 8:54:07 AM 1/11/05 “I've only just now 'broken in' my new one! I can not justify another.........yet.” 8:55:58 AM 1/11/05 “Well, honestly neither can I.” 8:56:29 AM 1/11/05 “Damn it HPM!!!! You are supposted to tell me I NEED a new one! ;-)” 8:57:41 AM 1/11/05 “You need 2 new ones.” 8:59:02 AM 1/11/05 “Oh umm ahem errr. *cough cough* Stovestomper if you don't keep up with backpacking technology improvments the other hikers will whisper, stare and point at you. And we all know how painful that can be. last edited: 1/11/05 9:00:08 AM” 8:59:44 AM 1/11/05 “*Hanging head in shame* (Well, I've been sick) I KNEW I liked Nimble for some reason. ;-)” 9:01:47 AM 1/11/05 “I realy want one of the MSR tarp tents but just can't justify it. It's heavier than my sil tarp and I do love the Clip Flashlite. Damn it all to hell!” 9:04:28 AM 1/11/05 This is what bugs me... “My tarptent just came back with the new bath tub floor. If only I had known...and I'm still tempted.” 9:07:31 AM 1/11/05 “Those continuing improvements suck! ;-)” 9:08:56 AM 1/11/05 “Does new and improved mean that we have been using old and inferior all along?” 10:51:20 AM 1/11/05 “The improvements did add 2.5 oz to the tent.” 10:54:08 AM 1/11/05 “Henry's got you guys by the 'nads. Ever hear of "planned obsolescence"? Henry has, lol! last edited: 1/11/05 10:58:03 AM” 10:57:51 AM 1/11/05 “The man's plain evil, I say! ;-)” 10:59:12 AM 1/11/05 A whopping 2.5 ounces???? “I'll have to leave a whole Clif Bar back at the truck now :~(” 12:57:22 PM 1/11/05 Currahee, Currahee, Currahee.... “There's just no hope for you buddy! ;-)” 12:59:57 PM 1/11/05 “Ha Ha! I was looking at these before but the one I wanted was 6 ounces less than my Microzoid. Not enough weight savings to justify the purchace. Hubcap posted about a tarp that weight 1.5 pounds the other day. The would save a pound for me.” 12:59:57 PM 1/11/05 “Actually, Kamper & I went round and round about getting a new Tarptent the other day, I lost :~(” 1:08:00 PM 1/11/05 “You're right about Henry, Bit. But we're not buyin', we're just whinin'.” 3:16:36 PM 1/11/05 “steeper walls and, most intersting of all, a peak vent......kewwwwwwl. well worth the x-tra 2.5 ozs.” 4:52:58 PM 1/11/05 “We should've known something was up with the big sale! I wonder if i could sew some patches inside the old style and put a little pole crosswise and open it on the top like the new kind.” 5:47:00 PM 1/11/05 “I got a Cloudburst last fall, love it. But now I want the new Virga. Henry tested it above treeline in strong winds, said it's super stable. I can readily vouch that the extended floor, which in effect creates a tub style floor, works exceptionally well - clip it up in a wind driven rain (clipped up does not block ventilation), leave it flat otherwise for more room. Guess a lot of thru-hikers will snap up all the used Tarptents that are about to be fore sale!” 5:52:41 PM 1/11/05 Whoa, new Tarptents from Henry “Yes, it\'s all a big conspiracy to extract $$ from you ;-) I will say that the new ones are a huge performance and space bump from the Virga and Squall. A little bit more weight (about 2 ounces on the extended floored Squall) but a whole lot more usable room for 2, including much easier door entry/exit, much more headroom, a longer floor, a couple of ditty pockets, and a very noticable gain in wind performance. I debated about changing the name of the Virga 2 to something else because the Virga 2 is so much roomier than the original Virga. The additional carbon fiber strut (18\") on both tents lives in a sleeve and can be removed if necessary but why bother since it rolls up nicely with the tent body and slides into the sack. Extended beak is standard and the extended floor sides have catenary curves for improved tautness when clipped up. For that matter all edges of the shelters are now catenary curved for improved tautness. Using either shelter with two trekking poles in front makes them exceptionally stable in wind and opens up the entry area even more. Ok, now start sending in those checks ;-) -H” 1:10:46 PM 1/12/05 “I knew Henry posted on other forums but I didn't realize he lurked here. Henry - Thanks for posting the new info. You know I really don't think you are evil! LOL Dang, he's already got me to buy two of his tarptents! last edited: 1/12/05 1:20:08 PM” 1:15:31 PM 1/12/05 “Troll! lol, j/k... last edited: 1/12/05 1:18:36 PM” 1:17:57 PM 1/12/05 “And soon a third, huh SS? Welcome, Henry. I'm a member of the Squall tribe, too. I'll be using it this weekend as a matter of fact. You'll see that StoveStomper and I tend to push your product if you check out other tent threads. Probably deserve a commission, LOL.” 1:18:49 PM 1/12/05 “Yes, my Squall #2 will be in use this weekend also on the 'Walls' trip.” 1:21:59 PM 1/12/05 “I know this SS ;op. last edited: 1/12/05 1:35:36 PM” 1:26:46 PM 1/12/05 1:33:34 PM 1/12/05 “ha” 1:51:02 PM 1/12/05 “Henry you bastard! Umm...we love you?” 1:55:06 PM 1/12/05 “Just ordered the Virga 2. Your play, Stovie.” 8:37:03 PM 1/12/05 “this seals it...a virga 2 is the opies next big buy” 8:55:53 PM 1/12/05 “Well done, woody. Nice get for your little hike coming up. Did you ever settle on treking poles?” 10:40:44 PM 1/12/05 “I'll prolly break down and get myself one this summer. Not for winter use though.” 10:54:30 PM 1/12/05 “Yes, Leki super malaku something or other. Still shiny and unused until Springer. Who is Woody?” 11:38:40 PM 1/12/05 “Forget my question, I just remembered. Ha-ha.” 11:39:22 PM 1/12/05 “Not sure there will be room in the ol' budget for a tent this year, but if there should be some extra buxx, the Virga 2 will be at the top of my list.” 11:52:51 PM 1/12/05 “hmm...new and improved Cloudburst around the corner...?” 5:37:02 PM 1/13/05 Something cool... “Just a moment ago (and only for a brief moment) the top 4 threads were either about gear or back packing. WTF is going on here?” 5:39:52 PM 1/13/05 “I am pissed! I just bought the old style (again...long story) I won't (but I want) the new type!!!” 5:54:15 PM 1/13/05
