scary incident near Omaha
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=1636&u_sid=1303966[url]

It seems that this young couple was out in the middle of the night during a snow storm. Somehow they ended up many miles from their midtown home, out in the country, not too far from where our bait shop is. The authorities have recovered the body of the man but the woman has not been found yet. They were completely unprepared for the conditions they ventured out in.

It is not likely that any TTers would be out in the middle of nowhere and be so unprepared for adverse conditions, but it is always best to be ready for anything if you are going to be out in bad weather. You never know what could happen. As the tsunami and this incident remind us, Mother Nature is still our most dangerous enemy.

Were they hiking or did their pick-up break down? Didn't say in the newspaper article. Bad way to go....near civilization too.

an update
You might now be seeing this story on the national news now that there are 911 tapes available. They finally found the girl's body last week. The autopsy results confirmed that both had been using methamphetamine, which undoubtedly contributed to their confusion and lack of good judgement. Pity the poor parents of this foolish and unfortunate couple.

A link to the 911 transcripts, very spooky. If you're going to do drugs please stay home or in some other safe place. These two had no idea where they were, they were hallucinating all over the place about Mexicans putting cars in the trees, and all other sorts of nonsense. Their drug use cost them their lives.

holy chit! Can you imagine being the dispatcher(s)?! How frustrating to not be able to do anything but listen to something like that. Post-traumatic stress fer sure.

that is just awful. Meth is bad, bad news... and big time use around here. In fact, a location where I sometimes go MIGHT have a meth lab in an apartment upstairs.

Isn't that just lovely???!? Smelled the strong cat piss smell twice.. there and then just gone. The friends contacted police about it. Can do NOTHING, at least that's what they were told, unless they can call police while it's BEING MADE!

Is anyone familiar with this?? It just seems crazy that people can't be busted unless they're making it, unless that's a certain type of tougher charges.

Yikes - what a sad story. Lots of us mess up when we are young, few of us pay that kind of price.

Hopefully the guy doesn't walk on the charges. Little chance, with the physical evidence and witnesses.
