Don'Gone Went'En Bought New GearView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 24 of 24 messages posted.
Aww Yeah... “Just got back from the REI near Philadelphia, where they traded in my busted trekking poles for a brand new pair. Very Cool. I also picked up an MSR Whisperlite stove, some fuel, and of course a bottle to go with that. I love my soda can stove dearly, but even though it does work in the cold, it just takes too dang long and just isn't cutting it. It'll be back on the trail when the weather gets warmer. I also almost bought REI's Monarch III boots (made by Merrell), but they didn't have my size in stock. So I figured I'd just have to buy them online. As I was driving back home, I thought I'd stop at Eastern Mountain Sports just for Ha-ha's, being that it was along the way and all. I tried on their Dry Hiker boots (since they had them in my size), and lo and behold, they fit so well, I decided to screw ordering the Monarchs online and bought the Dry Hikers for the same price. Saved myself shipping and sales tax (no sales tax on any clothing in NJ) A productive day indeed, if I don't say so myself...” 4:21:45 PM 1/08/05 “very nice PS!!! When will you try them on the trail?” 4:24:40 PM 1/08/05 “Tomorrow. (Please refer to the Mt Minsi thread for details -- by the way, your presence there is demanded.)” 4:26:07 PM 1/08/05 “You will really like the MSR stove.” 4:30:05 PM 1/08/05 “Oh Wonderful, call us the Minsi Twins...I have the Dry Hikers as well! LOL, Nice to see you finaly retired your old Tims. I got the EMS Primaloft gloves and a set of Yak Trax. I had a Pocket Rocket in my hand, but couldn't pull the trigger. I left EMS around 4:00, what time we you there?” 4:33:25 PM 1/08/05 Matching Shoes? “Yo, you keep your pocket rocket to yourself...” 6:03:24 PM 1/08/05 “Alright PS!! Lucky bastard you!! i want new gear, i think it's been years since i bought something. :( okay, not years but at least 6 month. That's the longest I have ever waited. I need a WARM sleeping bag, and a winter stove, but that's it. Oh, some warm winter boots. bag most important, then boots. bag costs a fortune, reason why i don't have it yet. damn... hey ens did you ever figure out how to work u're stove??” 6:12:09 PM 1/08/05 “Yeah, I'm glad I got the boots. The Tims were so old that I think St Peter wore them at the Last Supper. Anyway, they were just not cutting it anymore, and after the Thunderswamp debacle, where they were soaking after every little puddle I'd step in, I decided it was time this needed action.” 6:14:39 PM 1/08/05 Hey BS “I got to EMS around 4:30 and left around 5. Must've just missed you. I even thought to myself, how ironic would it be to see ya there?” 6:16:05 PM 1/08/05 “Gemini. I bought a Gregory backpack and a Sierra Designs 3D womens sleeping bag for my daughter three years ago. Todayh they are both new with tags. I have thought about giving them away, but now my daughter is engaged and I think I can talk my future son-in-law into a backpacking trip. If not I will keep you in mind.” 6:33:11 PM 1/08/05 “future son-in-law? yeah, take him backpacking and then around the campfire you can have "the talk". Start sharpening your knife or carving a point onto a stick and tell him how you expect him to treat her very very well. good idea, no?” 7:17:20 PM 1/08/05 “Wow Roam, are you feeling alright over there? I think that high altitude is starting to get to ya. I'm not sure I envy the poor schmook that decides to marry your daughter some 20 years from now... LOL” 7:52:05 PM 1/08/05 “In a weird ironic way I un-knowingly selected my future son-in-law. My daughter wears the pants in that relationship, but her fiance and I may be able to get her on the trail at least once. Sometimes once is enough. Backpacking can be addictive, ya know!” 8:39:48 PM 1/08/05 “first new gear in over a year : ![]() an "assisted opening" knife” 7:45:46 AM 1/09/05 “cool gear, PS! i just got a whisperlite as well but haven't tried it out yet on the trail. next weekend will be my first. no sales tax on clothing in PA either, goof. and you were at REI near me and didn't even bother to CALL me? i'm devastated.” 8:13:07 AM 1/09/05 Wahoo! “I am now the proud owner of the very last pair of Denali Ascents that they had at the Princeton EMS. With the 20% closeout, I managed to also the get 8" tails for 'em for free! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY ![]() last edited: 3/03/05 7:32:58 PM” 7:32:15 PM 3/03/05 “well I guess you're ready then” 7:40:51 PM 3/03/05 “You go Phantom!!” 7:42:12 PM 3/03/05 “when you going to score PA for March BS?” 7:43:51 PM 3/03/05 “Crap, I don't know? I got a 3 month string going now, I don't wanna mess it up. Got anything in mind?” 7:57:42 PM 3/03/05 “West Rim trail this weekend? ;)” 8:00:24 PM 3/03/05 “WRT? [Insert maniacal laughter here] [Proceed when finished laughing] Some nearby dayhike ideas include the AT, the Pinchot, Washington's Crossing, Valley Forge, Tyler (is it?) Aboretum... I know it's kinda urban, but does Independence National Historic Park in old city Philadelphia count if you actually walk the thing? I mean, it is in Pennsylvania...” 8:03:04 PM 3/03/05 “I wish, It's my wifes B-day on Saturday. I wouldn't mind revisiting Minsi (or some other quick getaway) next weekend, but I think you and PS got somethin' cooking no? * What are you laughing at you crazy bass turd? last edited: 3/03/05 8:05:17 PM” 8:03:39 PM 3/03/05 “did'ja, now? did'ja gone dun and larned how tuh tawk rite?” 7:30:08 PM 12/30/07
