“Which was made very clear to me this morning when I drove myself to merrellville. OMG I almost got in two accidents...One I was making a turn and hit an icy patch...suddenly the car wanted to keep going strait towards another car and the breaks wernt stopping it! Whew...stopped with inches to spare. Then driving back by 41 there was a freaking accident right in front of me. I had to swerve to avoid it and kept swerving cause I hit ice again... YIKES!” 10:59:44 PM 1/08/05 “youre bored, arent you, nicole?” 11:03:05 PM 1/08/05 “its a true story. No...just very tired. I jsut got home from work. And I freakin only got 3 hours of sleep last night. So um...I gues i should just go to bed but I am too busy rambling to do anything of the sort.” 11:04:35 PM 1/08/05 “so hows mike handling the hockey strike?” 11:05:13 PM 1/08/05 “Hes not aloud to watch it in his hole so he doesnt know anything about it. last edited: 1/08/05 11:06:13 PM” 11:05:44 PM 1/08/05 “Women aren't good at lots of things. That is ok as long as they are good at..er...well.. Well, spirit, good luck with that.” 11:09:52 PM 1/08/05 “bbw is probebly going to end up in a hole soon too....” 11:11:08 PM 1/08/05 “he wishes” 11:14:43 PM 1/08/05 “no no bbw has a nasty itch and needs to scratch it” 11:21:42 PM 1/08/05 “ew...maple, go to bed dear, its past your bedtime. I am sure treebeard is waiting for you.” 11:22:38 PM 1/08/05 “the very first time I drove alone, it was in a blinding snowstorm.....and we used to go to the parking lots and do donuts in the snow....so I can drive in the snow.... BUT......I don't drive in the snow down here in Alabama CAUSE these guys do NOT know how to drive in the snow, and THEY are dangerous....” 4:11:46 AM 1/09/05 “If they even forcast snow down here, they close and cancel EVERYTHING.....and the store shelves empty......” 4:12:53 AM 1/09/05 “living in Germany half of my life I know how to drive in the snow, it's the others that scare me. Hate to drive behind someone uphill. Especially if they don't know what the hell they are doing. I used to drive only stick shift, easier to drive in the snow. ( I think so at least) div, while I lived in TN they even closed the schools because they THOUGHT it would snow. LOL. Never really did snow that day. LOL Kids were happy! last edited: 1/09/05 8:56:07 AM” 8:47:01 AM 1/09/05 “After a big snow, go to an empty parking lot and practice things like braking, turning corners and doing donuts. That will help you get a better feel for how your car will handle in the snow. Practice when there is a lot of snow and before they plow. Practice again after they have cleared the lot and the surface is still slippery. You'll learn that you have to keep more following distance and how to react early to situations. Tha scariest part of driving in snow and ice is the other drivers that don't have a clue about traction on ice and snow and what their vehicle won't do. When driving on the highway, reduce your speed and handle the vehicle like it's a big boat...no sudden changes in steering, braking or acceleration.” 12:56:47 PM 1/09/05 go to the nearest.... “large parking lot and practice skidding and sliding. Learning how your vehicle is going to react and how to control it is a very good idea...plus its fun.” 6:17:21 PM 1/09/05 “i used to love going to iced up deserted parking lots and skidding around in reverse” 6:20:32 PM 1/09/05 “what stikmon said is a great idea. I used to do that for fun in Germany all the time.” 7:02:21 PM 1/09/05 “I'm going to have to do that for sure now. Thanks for the great idea...come on SNOW :)” 10:53:46 PM 1/09/05 “Come live in Canada for a couple of months in winter....that'll learn you how to drive in snow....and ice (which actually ain't driving)...just holding onto the steering wheel for your life, and hoping you've enough distance between you and the car ahead of you. Ice, or Black Ice....the worst #&%!$ to be on....” 1:30:22 AM 1/10/05 “wow, a woman admitting they can't drive. What's next?” 7:49:39 AM 1/10/05 “I drove through IN and IL and MO Friday night. IN was covered in ice, trees, fences, everything except the road, thank God. Someone still managed to drive off the road and make a nice forty minute back-up. IL was rain/sleet, no big deal but got stopped for two accidents and held up forever it seemed. MO, St. Louis in particular was a nightmare. Almost no visibility, huge wet snowflakes that stuck to the windshield and the road. Lane lines weren't visable and people were driving all over the place. The 18 wheelers were plowing through sending slush waves over cars whoose drivers would automatically hit their brakes as hard as they could and create problems for the rest of us who know how to drive and have enough sense to turn our wipers up when we see a truck getting ready to pass. It sucked. Gave me a cramp in my neck.” 8:20:56 AM 1/10/05 I hope... “Birch gives you neck and belly rubs to ease the pain.” 8:23:51 AM 1/10/05 “we are in for a big ice storm overnight and all through tuesday...I think I'll have mike drive me to work tonight.” 8:27:20 AM 1/10/05 “Birch wasn't there, snif. He was at home, having a daddy/daughter weekend. I had to rub my own neck (there was no way I was going to ask my dad or my goofy 22 yr old brother to do it).” 8:30:15 AM 1/10/05 The Best... “.....was seeing a Ford Explorer do a 720 on the hi-way, during a freezing rain, right after he recklessly drove past all the slow moving cars (Splashing everybody too)....and hitting the hi-way wall on all 4 sides of his SUV...twice. I was SO tempted to honk while driving by him....I think all the other drivers had a smirk on their faces.” 10:49:09 AM 1/10/05 “ha ha, I always see people with 4WD in the ditches when it snows. 4WD means you can go, It doesn't mean you can stop :)” 11:03:30 AM 1/10/05 ““The transcendental beauty of winter is vivacious and a fraternization with the season is a must. Please, I want more snow. Spirit Coyote 2:20:22 PM 12/29/0”” 11:13:06 AM 1/10/05 “What kind of tires do you have, SC? And do you have antilock brakes? last edited: 1/10/05 11:23:56 AM” 11:23:23 AM 1/10/05 “I have no idea...they are new tires we got them before last winter. what are antilock brakes?” 11:29:54 AM 1/10/05 Just remember... “Turn into the skid. Turn into the skid.” 11:37:43 AM 1/10/05 “"what are antilock brakes?" Spirit Coyote 11:29:54 AM 1/10/05 Brakes that don't lock up, hence "anti-lock"” 11:38:45 AM 1/10/05 “were in for 1/2 inch of ice tonight the news is saying!” 11:39:50 AM 1/10/05 “So you probably have basic tires with or without antilock. Get all season tires now and figure out what kind of brakes you have now! Depending on type you either pump the brake to stop from dying or just hit those puppies. I have antilock but am so used to pumping the brake while slidding that I find it difficult to do otherwise.” 11:42:43 AM 1/10/05 “Do they still make cars w/o anti-lock brakes?” 11:46:15 AM 1/10/05 “Not sure. Last time I lived up North I had a car without anti-lock.” 11:50:20 AM 1/10/05 “actually we need new brakes period. Were grinding down tha calipers! :O!” 11:58:35 AM 1/10/05 “When you end up in an accident after the next icy patch I'll try and refrain from saying "I told here so".” 12:00:13 PM 1/10/05 “lol Well, its either the brakes on the car or getting a new furnace for the house (it cant be repared, our repairman tried today)” 12:11:53 PM 1/10/05 “I learned how to drive in snow in Wyoming - blizzards are the worse.” 12:31:10 PM 1/10/05 “Jeeps don't have anti-lock brakes, they're not good in most off-road situations.” 12:33:09 PM 1/10/05 “You shoulkd probably figure out what type of brakes you have as it makes a difference in how you're supposed to apply pressure to the pedal. Anti-lock you press hard and constant, regular you pump the brake. I got new tires this fall. Goodyear "something" ATV. Turns out they have a horrible rating for snow and rain. My old bald tires were better. The worst part is they're supposed to last 50,000 miles. They're good in dry conditions. Unfortunately it's wet in Michigan often.” 12:33:13 PM 1/10/05 “You want to be careful practicing your skidding in a parking lot. You may well get ticketed for driving to endanger. An understanding officer may go easy on you, but..... If you have access to a frozen lake you can drive out onto, you won't get ticketed, but there is the issue of possibly falling thru, no insurance once your tires hit the ice, and sometimes..... sometimes, there are idiots out there that may run into you.” 4:30:00 PM 1/10/05 “Crash up durby!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But not with my wife! 8)” 4:26:48 PM 1/11/05 “LOL...there are many, many vehicles in Lake Erie....ice fishermen.....” 4:30:19 PM 1/11/05 “Snowmobiles in lakes too....snowmobilers too. :o(” 8:56:34 PM 1/11/05
