my big buddy is my dog, Khatru
I was away for 11 days, and my mom was away for 7 days too. Khatru stayed at a real nice doggy hotel. When we arrived home, we put a 2foot doggy bone gift wrapped, on his bed. When I got him home on Tuesday, he was so happy and tore the wrapping off his bone. He has been so joyous and active this entire week playing with his bone and sharing it with me and hiding peices of it all over the house. one by one, he has pulled the peices out of hiding and ate them and now he has no bone to play with and hasn't moved off his bed all night. he is sad and depressed and I feel so sad for him, what should I do? get him another and another and another...or should I just let him wallow in his own greedy thoughts and hope for the best, or should I get him some doggy paxcil? I don't know what to do...someone help me please. and if I get a great response to this plea for help, I'll post another for a problem of a different sort.

stovey...
please don't be claravoient...and

crashbang...I see that you have returned to your normal self. It didn't take long for your experience to evaporate from your being. You obviously need help of your own sort...if you'd like, I'll send you a 2'doggy rawhide bone to chew on. It might make you feel better and at the worst, it might help your breath.

take him out tomorrow for a big play day, run and let him chase balls.

Then if he's still bummed, get him another bone.

Give him a little TLC... om also might be right about the raw hide, my dog isn't suppose to have rawhide at all.

I play with him all the time and...
give him belly rubs all the time. I even let him take naps on the couch with me. We play tug too with his new tug toy...the only thing is that it hurts my teeth when he pulls really hard. I will get him back on the trail in 3 weeks for a jaunt to the shawnee in S.Ill.

I might run him tomorrow, if the stitch in my chest subsides and my throat allows it

When we leave my wife's dog at her parents' while on vacation, the dog doesn't want to come home with us. When we get her home, she mopes for a number of days, until the 'usual' routine returns, then gets back to "herself." My wife says, "Just like a kid."

LOL...when I had cats, they would not "speak" to us after we returned from vacation for a few days.......greet us at first...glad we are home...and then turn .....tails in the air...and ignore us for a few days as punishment.....

He's just experiencing a "let down" after all the excitement of the reunion and then the big exciting present.

I personally had the same problem after the holidays. There was so much to do to get ready for Christmas (shopping, baking, cooking, decorating), a weekend trip to Savannah, getting together with friends and family, running here for this and there for that, and then the New Years celebration. I felt such a let down when it was all over. I just laid around on a piece of shearling on the living room floor, I felt SO bored. G00SE tried scratching me behind the ears and Sauron dangled a sock tied in a knot in front of my nose, but to no avail. Eventually though, I pulled out of it and went back to my normal routine.

Katru will too, just give him time. I would make a suggestion, though. Next time he has a big exciting homecoming and reunion, hold off on the rawhide bone a day or two instead of plopping it all on him all at once. That way, when he's starting to come down from the initial excitement of the reunion, it'll give him a little boost and something to keep him busy during the adjustment back to normal.

I think this may be backwards. I'd think being owned by Sticky would be cause enough for depression. He was probably depressed he came home.

Skully, once again your words...
are encouraging and sound. Personally, I'd like to scratch behind your ears too, and thinking of you lying on a shearling rug has its own merits. Thank you...and

Nigal...bugger off mate!

Last night Khatru was snoring so loud under my bed that he woke me up. I had to take him to his room to sleep the rest of the night by himself. What can a person do about a dog that snores real loud.

When our dogs come home from the kennel they're exhausted and sleep for two days straight after all the joyous reunion and sniffing around. They get put in big play groups of other dogs and get worn out playing and being crabby at other dogs.

We get big twelve packs of 10 inch dental rawhide bones for $10 at Costco. Our dogs love having something to chew on and they do get mopey if we run out. Buy K another bone.

"Our dogs love having something to chew on and they do get mopey if we run out."

Honey gets whinny when she runs out too. My mother in-law bought her a big bag of these huge ass rawhides that are too big for her to chew on so she just keeps walking around the house with it in her mouth getting all stressed out about what to do with it. LOL!

I have family and friends fight over who's going to watch Honey when I go away. My parants have even called me and asked when I was going away again so Honey can come stay with them. LOL!

I have the same problem with my pooch. Actually the wife snores too so I started going out to the couch. Problem was that dog followed me out and tried to sleep with me on the couch. I don't mind this, however she is a 100 pound beast and there is not much room.

I bought a white noise machine and put it on the night table on my side of the bed. I love it. I still wake up in the middle of the night to the snorring, but I get back to sleep quick.

White noise definitely helps. One of our neighbors had a dog with a barking problem a couple of summers ago. That little fish feces would start barking about bedtime every single night. We started using an air filter that has a nice, noise blocking but soothing hum at night. Worked like a charm.

WK-- you might want to have your wife checked for sleep apnea... My dad used to snore so loudly you could practically see the paint cracking....

He went to a sleep disorders clinic and they found out that he stops breathing 60 times a MINUTE when he is sleeping!!!!

So, they got him this special breathing apparatus that goes over his nose and mouth and keeps the air flowing...

My mom nearly freaked out at first, because, after almost 40 years of hearing him snore--he didn't do it any more!

On the plus side, after he got the breathing machine, he's been much more alert-- instead of falling asleep during the day, he has a lot more energy....

I keep hearing of people being diagnosed with that. Does anyone know how many times the average person stops breathing while asleep?

thats funny. Can I keep you? I snore too. and while I was in the Bend last week, I actually awoke to the noise and thought to myself that either I awoke to my own snoring or Jeff snores REALLY loud. As I had earplugs in and couldn't hear anything of my surroundings, I presummed it was me, and it was as my throat really hurt, way more than it has the past 4 weeks.

One reason she has been bad lately is due to a cold, plus she is 8 months pregnant. She never snored before. The sleep apnea thing does kinda run in her family. Her uncle has it. It is kinda scarey! We were driving with him somewhere and he fell asleep in the car (I was driving). All os a sudden he let out a gasp of air and it sounded like he exploded. He woke himself up and explained wht his problem was.

I almost drove off the rode.

if he's having trouble digesting things it's usually pretty apparent at the other end. Get him a cooked knuckle bone or something. There's less for them to actually digest on those.

oh no,
he has no digestion problems...trust me on that one. he eats dead things his BM's are regular and look like nice firm tootsie rolls. No, I think its based upon the fact that he ain't got no more bone to hide or chew.

He walks around with it in his mouth moaning and whatnot...its a riot. He hides it and then watches to see if anyone saw where he puts it, then if he sees that you know, then he goes and gets it from his hiding spot and rehides it. the last peice was pulled from behind my tower speaker. I was like, "what are you doing behind there" and when he backed out, he had a peice of bone in his mouth. He took it to his bed and ate it and then never moved from the spot except to go to the bathroom.

I hope to run him tonight and get some energy out of him. At lunch we played "toss the doggy" and he liked that...bristled and ran through the leaves like banshee. I think the run will do him good. but as soon as he sees me packin for the MLK float trip weekend and don't see his gear out, he's gonna know, he ain't going and will pout like spoilt child. He's a daddy's dog for sure.

You should hear Honey carry on at night. She starts twitching and yelping under her breath and then storts growling real deep and low. It's hilarious!

Khartu does that...
it is a riot...one night while sleeping on the bed he started in on that and woke me up and he got so agitated that he woke himself up and stood up growling and bristling...I was laughing so hard.

Sometimes I have to do the 3 stooges thing..."hey, wake up stupid and go back to sleep". He don't like that very much, but I don't like being woken up either...alls fair in love and war.

Beagles are the best at that. They'll be chasin' rabbits in their sleep and their little short legs are just going a million miles an hours.

I think the funniest is when shane does scooby doo's in the house (all wood floors). He thinks he's rushing to meet you or go to the back door. His legs are flailing about and the dog's going nowhere.

Course it doesn't help that I wax the floor with silicone. j/k really
