I bought a Nikon D100 1 year ago at Thanksgiving. Then the D70 came out 3 months later... this is the next hype generation....

I've taken almost 9000 photos so far.... hope my camera can last for at least 2 or 3 more years before I need to invest in something newer!”

“The D1X and D1H prices have droped quite a bit I've heard. I don't pay attention to digital tho... You've got to pay to play... I am more into the art of film.”

“The D1H originally was 5K. You can now get the next generation D2H for under 2k. I paid a lot more than 2k for my D1H, which makes me feel a bit ill.

I was into the art of film as well. The cost of processing 20 rolls of slide film after a trip, and then the time to scan the slides got to me. I guess I got lazy. Digital is just too easy, but there's something about putting new slides on a light box and eyeing them up with a good loupe.”

“I'm not going to enter into the "film vs. digital debate" here, but I have to say as one F5 user to another, weren't you shocked when Nikon released the F6?

There is only one thing with the F6 that I'd like to upgrade for, and that's the focusing system. Other than that, the F5 has been cutting edge for many many years, and will remain so much longer than digital, mainly because the technology on film cameras doesn't progress at quite the rate as it seems to with digital.

After all, what is a camera other than a light tight box in which to hold your film?”

“I feel like I shelled out a mint for my Nikon D70. I looked at the better ones and decided the D70 does what I want at a price I could afford. I also have a Nikon Cool Pix 5400, which does pretty good for the price. It's light enough for backpacking or long day trips.

I've got to get familiar with the D70 before April, when it will start taking cool nature photos.”

“That's the bummer of digi over film. It's a boon for camera manufacturers. With film, a good photog with an average camera could take piccies with just as much resolution as a pro (excluding large format stuff). Now every year the MP are gonna go up and up and new resonas to buy a new one.”

at $8.00 a roll to process (double prints and a CD included) that would cost me about $2000 in film processing...

I do agree, however, that regular film does have its benefits, however, for me, I don't process my own film, whereas in digital, I can do my own "darkroom" work on my prints... :-)”

“This is what all the Photo talk is about now a days. NOT really. For the weekender maybe. I think digital has done allot for photography, It has made photography the talk at the water cooler again. But all and all it hasn't changed photography much, as far as an art form. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference how you make a great image, just make one. All the talk is resolution, this has but a small part to do with the image. A camera, a printer, developer, reducer, there is NO magic pill. If I shoot crap on a 8x10 view Camera it will be Clean and sharp, But it's still crap! If you buy professional camera equipment, $5000 is not that big of a shock to you. I would not pay that for a camera, But I would for a great piece of glass.”

“I am looking at the d70.My only prob is that your paying 1300 for box and lens when really your glass is the most important piece.It seems like your paying a lot for a box that will date fast and be left with an alright lens.I hear it takes great pics so maybe i shouldnt be too anal about the lens.
Ive considered the canon digital rebel kit but i hear the lens is poor.However othe r peeps say its great and ive seen the kit go for 800bux.Which is way cheaper than the d70.”
