Ouch.

Poor kid gets out of the shower, turns on the old electric wall heater, then, in the process of drying off, backs into the dang thing and burns his butt. It's about a 3-inch diameter spot and he must've lost his balance and leaned up against the thing for a couple seconds 'cause the outer layer of skin came right off (i.e., looks like a blister that's already been popped). Antibacterial cream and loose fitting pants will be the routine for the next several days....

EEEYOOWCH!

Silvadine cream is supposed to be good for burns, according to my doctor. You'll need to get a prescription for it.

My brother #4 knows how that feels
When we were kids, back in the days of heating bath water on the wood stove, brother #4 climbed out of that round metal tub and backed into the cast iron wood burning heater. I still remember the dance he did, but I've never cared enough to ask if he has a scar.

Amazing that all those years when you expect a kid to accidentally burn himself on something, he never does. Now that he's practically a grownup - SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

Yes, the doc gave us a prescription for the Silvadine or whatever it's called.

No, I did not kiss it to make it better - humans' mouths are loaded with germs! Instant infection!

Mr. Hyde was very sympathetic - he kept wanting to climb up on BowlderSon's back when he was lying on the bed with a cold cloth on "the wound."

If its a bad burn like that you should take him to the doc, they can give him some cream that will keep away infection. I had a sunburn so bad once that blisters were poping and oozing...they gavbe me soothing cream for it.

Branding, hey, now that's an idea. Since it's BowlderSon, maybe his brand could be the big BS!

Yes, I called the doc immediately and took B-Son in a bit later. He said I did a great job dressing "the wound." Maybe I can have a career in first aid....

What a pain in the...

It wouldn't hurt to consult a medical person, but it sounds like it is a 2nd degree partial thickness burn, you can find guidelines here:

http://www.ncemi.org/cse/cse1103.htm

Note: Do not confuse partial thickness burns with full thickness burns. Full thickness burns have no sensory function or skin appendages such as hair follicles remaining, do not form vesicles, and may have evidence of thrombosed vessels. If areas of full thickness burn are present or suspected, seek surgical consultation because these areas will not grow new skin and may later require skin grafting.

Thanks pedxing. It looked "bad" to me, so that's why I got on the phone to the doc right away. The burned area was hurting him, so I figured it wasn't 3rd degree. Once he took a look at it, the doc wasn't too worried - he just said to put the cream on and it will heal up just fine.

He must not be hurting too bad - we went to the batting cages last night and he hammered the ball all over the place!
