My Favorite Gandhi Quote...
I\\\'ve posted lots of criticisms of late, and I\\\'m not all about negativity... so here is one of my favorite positive Gandhi quotes that proves quite true and without evidence to refute it...

++++

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, ALWAYS.
--Mahatma Gandhi

My favorite quote is by David Russell:

"The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn."

But seriously...

"One of the most basic principles for making and keeping peace within and between nations is that in political, military, moral, and spiritual confrontations, there should be an honest attempt at the reconciliation of differences before resorting to combat." Jimmy Carter

Profound changes have been taking place in American foreign policy, reversing consistent bipartisan commitments that for more than two centuries have earned our nation greatness. These commitments have been predicated on basic religious principles, respect for international law, and alliances that resulted in wise decisions and mutual restraint. Our apparent determination to launch a war against Iraq, without international support, is a violation of these premises.

I'd like to read Carter's new book. I think I'll put that on the to-do list.

Dayhiker, "Making Peace" was an enjoyable read. I got it for my kids and we all got a crack at reading it. Carter, I think was one of the finest men to serve as president (though not the finest president, if you know what I mean.)

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

Ghandi was murdered and his killer is dead too.
Of the two, whose actions are remembered most?

The same could be said for Martin Luther King.

Carter was a better than average president. He created millions of jobs and reined in inflation which was so dangerous at the time as to risk creating another Great Depression. And contrary to Republican attacks, he actually cut taxes, including the capital gains tax duing his term.

He lost because of the Iranian hostage scandal with right-wingers putting a "days since they've been gone" counter on all the televisions. He got a bum wrap on the Iranian hostage scandal which I have always viewed was Eisenhower(R)'s fault for replacing the Iranian democracy and installing the Shah/dictator for British Petroleum. The students who kidnapped the hostages actually held the hostages in the same room that the CIA coup to overthrow their Democracy was run from. They figured the irony of it could not possibly escape the American people... LOL.

They didn't understand that in America those that pay attention to what people of other cultures think are demonized for 'sympathizing with terrorists'.

Perhaps Carter's most amazing legacy...

Carter is the ONLY modern president to have not attacked any other countries during his term. ... the only one. This is especially useful to note because he was born and raised in a military family and had an impressive military career including service on America's first nuclear submarine group.

He married his wife in 1927 ... and they are STILL married!!

Ummm, now just how YOUNG were they to get married in 1927. Geez, your integrity just got shot to hell!

Carter did send choppers on the ill fated rescue mission, but it is possible they crashed before reaching Iran.

Four hundred years the white man has had his foot-long knife in the black man's back - and now the white man starts to wiggle the knife out, maybe six inches! The black man's supposed to be grateful?

Swami has wit!
"If we want world peace, we must let go of our attachments and truly live like nomads. That's where I no mad at you, you no mad at me. That way, there'll surely be nomadness on the planet. And peace begins with each of us. A little peace here, a little peace there, pretty soon all the peaces will fit together to make one big peace everywhere." -- attributed to Swami Beyondananda
