Trolls! I break them apart into pieces, cook them on a stake over a campfire and eat them. Then I chuck them up into a creek and watch them flow downstream.

Plus, you wouldn't want to polute a stream like that.

*I might be downstream pumping water, do you now how hard it is to get troll out of your prefilter?

cous cous, well spiced...with my dried veggies, tortillas and dehydrated refried beans (with dried jalapenos, YUM!), and dried salsa. Some prepackaged "camp meals". Lots of trail mix. Oatmeal, or dried scrambled eggs for breakfast. I also pack in dried fruit to rehydrate. Cocoa and tea.

Enertia meals (http://www.trailfoods.com) are very good and easy to make on the trail.

Also, the Lipton sides with a pouch of tuna, or chicken, or whatever you like, all of which can be picked up at the local grocery store.

I don't or rarely cook. Maybe if I'm going for a week or more. There's no place I can't get out of in NYS in a (long) day. I don't usually make a fire & stopped carrying pots, pans & stove a long time ago. I will carry it in a canoe. I usually eat while I'm walking or take a 15min break.

Same way with our job. My partner & I travel the entire state & we will not stay overnight even though the state will get us each a room & pay expenses.

We can usually do what we gotta do & be back home within 16-18 hours.

Ok seriously? I love triple decker PB&J sandwiches for lunch, also cheese and beef jerky. Gorp is also good on the trail, but I'm kinda sick of it, even with the many variations. For dinner I often freeze pack in something, like beef or chicken stew or spicy pork with taters and vegies. Mostly I just bring Mountain House meals, 'cause they're so easy to get. I have to drive a half hour to get Enertia meals. Apple Cinnamin Oatmeal, loads of coffee and MH bacon and eggs make a great breakfast for me, unless I'm a major Slacker, then I throw some breakfast bars down my throat and hit the trail.

oatmeal for breakfast - almost every time. Prepackage into ziplocks and just add almost boiling water.

The only time I take real pots and pans with me is if the Man is with me...because he likes seeing his little lady cooking and cleaning, even in the wilds ;-)

I haven't branched out much into real food. Thus far it's been anything you can add water to: Liptons rice adding pouches of either salmon, tuna, chicken, etc, instant potatoes with things added, stove top dressing. So far it's been more important to travel light.

Nowslimmer - you've got some stuff to learn. Everyone knows that a characteristic of a troll is that their body parts ALWAYS float upstream.

I cook anything I want. I have yet to find anything I want to eat that I can't enjoy while backpacking.

Nimblefoot - Yes, you're correct. I was going to change that to upstream, but I ran out of edit time. It was my error. Trolls are always going against the stream.

Rice or noodles.
Cannot eat cous cous as I need a cathole about 30 minutes after eating it.
Whoo Hoo, straight through.

Generally just go with grocery store stuff like Liptons; cajun rice and beans is good, and so is stroganoff with a little milk powder stirred in after cooking while I give it the 3 minutes to sit.

Almost anything dehydrated and with a short cooking time.

Manuka, that's kinda odd. Cous cous is just wheat isn't it? Do you have a wheat allergy?

I'm not proud of it, but I've managed to simplify.

I got sick of oatmeal (and cottage - shepherd's - pie) at a VERY young age. If you're from a Scots working class family you'll understand why.

I use fruit filled breakfast bars for brekky with instant coffe and Coffemate.

Lunch is snacking on fruit leathers, trail mix; chocolate bar and dried salami in wither.

Dinner is from Backpacker's Pantry because their meals are available in single servings from Campmor and I'm small enough that they satisfy me. I put the meal in my oversized, insulated cup and pour in boiling water cover, wait, stir and eat. If I'm carrying wine - that's fine (sorry), otherwise water and hot chocolate.
