Anyone Been To Isle Royale?

“Patrick, you will get a bunch of responses I'm sure. A group of us were just there at the end of September for a week. If you do a search of the threads, you will find a ton of threads with lots of great info.

It's such a great trip. You'll love it. And BTW, there are a number of us from northern Indiana here, so maybe you'd like to join one of our trips. I haven't checked your profile to see if your email is filled in. If so, then we can send you an invite.

“Hi Southbendhiker! Isle Royale is my favorite place to hike. Last trip I did a good portion of the Greenstone Ridge (and many parts on prior trip) and all of the Minong Ridge trail. The Greenstone ridge was beautiful, huge trees on the Western side of the island, but it's mostly forest, no views. Think about doing the Minong Ridge trail. It's amazingly gorgeous, nice and challenging and the views are incredible!

If you don't have it look for Jim DuFresne's book Isle Royale National Park, it's an invaluable resource.

“Southbendhiker - Say, hiker, you're just a stone's throw away from Hudson Lake, near New Carlisle. I can remember that lake before they built a small dam at the end and flooded out a road on the opposite shore. And you're not far from Paw Paw Lake, MI. Boy, you Indiana people revive lots of memories for me.

“My pics are from September, as well. Post Labor Day is a great time to visit IR. Fewer people and fewer bugs as every day passes, while the colors go through changes in bands by altitude and exposure.”
