Do they work ?
Heading out this weekend. Looks like it will get down to 0 deg and I have a 15 deg bag.
Does anybody have one or tried one of these liners. They say it will add 15 deg.

I have a fleece liner from REI. It says that it will add up to 8 degrees. I can honestly say that I have never used it this was though. I bought it for use as a summer bag.

Problem solved

Nice - way cheaper, only 8oz heavier. Just gotta find room for 8"/10" stuff. But for the
price, I'll make room!!
Thanks WK.

I use a silk liner year-round. Silk wicks well in warm weather, which keeps you cool if you use it out of your bag (like early in the night before you need to zip up). It also is warm in cold weather, adding about 10 degrees to your bag. It only weighs about 4 ounces and packs down to the size of your closed fist.

My source: http://www.jagbags.co.nz/products.htm

The one that WK posted weighs about 1 1/2 pounds and is about the same price.

I have a cocoon silk light weight. But I just dont trust it will add 9 deg. Have you used the silk in really cold weather ??
Like I said I have a 15 deg bag, and its going down to 0 deg or more this weekend.

you could just wear extra layers of clothes and take some body warmers

Its the weight thing. That Integral Design
linner is very light, very compact and 15deg+ rating. Ofcourse you pay for it all too.

A tip I passed around at the hike I was on this past weekend (down to 23 both nights), is to take a hand warmer and stick it between 2 socks on your left foot, just behind your ankle. That warms the blood in the artery there and warms your whole body. You need the extra sock because it will burn your skin if you put it inside a single sock. I second the extra layers thing - just wear more of your cold weather gear inside your bag.

I use a coolmax liner in my 20 deg. bag - it got down around 10 and i was juuuuust fine. I'm a warm sleeper though. The coolmax was the best bang for my buck that i could find.

Hey Tech, why the left foot? Curious

silk liners do work very well. a lot of my fellow outward bound instructors swear by them. Also make sure you have a four season sleeping pad and i like to boil water, put it in a water bootle and then put that in my sleeping bag. That always got me through cold nights in the catskills.

You can also wear a stocking hat while you sleep. Keep the fro heat in!

balaklava = good fro heat retention

Excellent advise !! I'll go with the silk liner, hand warmer in sock trick, and layers.
