“Why would the Democrats propose a plan that has no hope of passing?

The recent reform of our intelligence agencies didn't have enough support from Republicans to win, but it would have passed with existing Democratic votes. The Republicans refused to vote on it until it was a Republican majority that voted for it.

Republicans would rather kill a bill supported by the majority of Americans and representatives than involve the Democrats in governing.

The only role Democrats have right now is to oppose bad bills.

So, get to governing Republicans. We are interested in seeing what happens.”

Democrats have been playing this role for four years. America needs new ideas and plans for solving problems. Democrats have spent the last four years stuck in the 'Election was Stolen' mentality.

There are moderate Democrat's with ideas, but the left wing leaders of the Democratic party have imposed an agenda of attack. You guys need leaders with ideas.”

The election looks like a success Turnout wise - that's a good thing for the future. But the country is still a mess in terms of the insurgency which was allowed to develop and grow stronger. If groups emerge from Iraq like AQ did following the Russian invasion of Afganistan, then America certainly won't be safer.
All this at the cost of $300 billion dollars. I don't see the righties whining too much about this as they normally do when complaining about paying taxes for things like education.”

No I'm just trying to give credit to those who are actually over there doing the job and trying to show that it isn't ALL bad.”

“No you're not. You're trying to put a positive spin on the Administration's often poor decisions.
You perhaps need to be able to seperate the wonderful efforts and sacrifices being made by the soldiers in the line of fire in Iraq, and the decisions made and lies told by those that sent them there while they sit in Washington, (drinking and #&%!$ing each other in DC on Inauguration night, paying little more than lip service to the troops) having never been put in war situation themselves.
Whatever the outcome of the elections, the troops were told they were defending America from a threat, not spreading Freedom. However worthy the cause there would not have been support for an invasion had the American people been told that Saddam never posed a real threat to America.
What really sickens me is the concept that supporting the troops involves blindly following whatever the President says. The best way to support the troops is not to lie to them, and to question a leaders motives and decisions to make sure they are not being led into danger unless it is absolutely necessary.

But once you've invaded Iraq I do hope things go well, even if it involves wishing success for an ill-conceived plan for a pre-emptive invasiop of Iraq. With the administration playing such a high-stakes game with the thousands and even hundreds of thousands of lives in the future, the consqunces of failure are too high to contemplate. And we're not out of the woods yet.”

I have kept my statments simple and clear yet for some reason I'm not saying what you want me to say so you get a case of diaria of the mouth and try to twist, turn and shove your own words and assumptions down my throat. Sorry. Swing and miss.

Of course the focus is on what's going wrong. Bombs are going off frequently, large numbers of people are dying. That, by the way the world works, is going to attract all then attention. But if you look at the election coverage for example, people are prepared to see things postively when good things happen.”

Bad decisions. Poor planning for post invasion Iraq. Not enough troops to secure the country following the initial invasion. Failure to provide basic services to much of the country, such as electricity. Failure to secure oil pipelines and get oil flowing in enough quantity to offset some of the $300 billion being poured into the country. A complete failure to find WMDs. A desire to invade too soon with the aim of being done before the 2004 election, hindering international support. The alienation of potential allies due to hamfisted, bullying diplomacy. A failure to quell insurgents. The failure to capture Bin Laden due to only 11,000 troops committed to Afganistan and 150,000 committed to Iraq, which didn't pose a threat to America..... need I go on?
Even if you think invasion was right, which I reluctantly agreed with once the administration drew the line in the sand - as you can't turn back from once it's drawn - the whole thing could have been handled in a far less reckless gung-ho way. Maybe if they'd put Powell in charge of reconstruction instead of the arrogant and unaccountable Rumsfeld, then things might have turned out better and thousands less American soldiers may be alive or not missing limbs.”
