Picture of jerbear on chimney rocks above the Upper Iowa, just to give you an idea of what it's like (and yes, there are farms on the OTHER side of the river, cuz it is Iowa, after all. LOL!):

Thanks for all the work planning this trip Lizs. I'll speed all the way across southern Wisconsin to be one of the first to get there. On second thought, I'll take the longer route through northern Illinois to get there.

LOL, Pros, I used to speed across southern Wisconsin to Chicago. SOUTHERN Wisconsin ain't the problem. Why, they're folks like you and me..... :-) Why, I'd be all up for annexing southern Wisconsin to any of our fine states. hahaahhaa... Let the northern part go its own way. Maybe Canada would want'em. I know, I know... then YOU will live part of the year in Canada. LOL!

In 2004, Americans celebrated Tax Freedom Day more than two months earlier than Canadians. Canada is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to ........

We celebrated tax freedom day??? Why? 8o)

Anyhoo... I have no clue if I can go. We'll see what life has in store for me when the time draws near but I'll keep this trip in the back of my mind... now, if I could just find my mind...

It was great to see Jerbear again! Is he coming? Uh-oh.... I better rephrase that for him... Will he be joining us? ;o)

Minneapolis. Hey, I KNOW Airtan flies there. That's a 2-hour drive.

Otherwise, Rochester's is 45 minutes away... and La Crosse, WI is about an hour... if ya like the puddle jumper commuters to the smaller airports. Can you say "turboprop??" lol

So you can see what airline flies where:

(HA! I see this one is managed by the Mayo Foundation!!! LOL! You could be flying in with some sheik for his clinic appointment. heheheh)

Stovey, another idea... if we get MHH to come (and she'd be a fool not to, ya hear me, Matahari!!!!) she is northeast of the Twin Cites and -- who knows?? -- she might be nice enough to pick up your lame ass at MSP airport. LOL!

Well, gary galore, I have sat my butt in a tube and tubed the river. But you go pretty slow. :-)

I am working on a map with my new, lovely, not-quite-what-I-thought-it-was mapping software (refer to mapping software thread)

This might be a good trip.

Wait, that didn't sound right. Oh heck, sunshine knows what I meant. ;-)

well we better talk her into coming then! So to speak!!

And sunshine, I have no clue if jerbear is coming. He just happened to be in the river photo. If you look further in that photo folder you'll find a shot of him as a PIRATE on the Upper Iowa. LOL!

STOVEY, another idea for flying in... go to O'Hare and see if you can talk Pros or gforce or someone coming through Chicago into giving you a ride. :-)

(why maybe you could have lunch with Ruby??? LOL! How is that lunch coming along?)

And GForce, there are a few folks who will probably join this trip who have extra boats...of course, since you're such an unreliable person (imagine winking devil face here)....................

lol, whaddya mean, "am I alone again?" I was just reading your "blue balls" report. :-)

Div, are you wondering for flying or driving? I'm guessing driving, since we've mentioned the airports. Closest town of any size, Decorah, the place I called "home" from 1982-2003.

Otherwise, well, I still need to figure out where to start this trip and will need some help figuring out what's logical mileage on the river... may have to grab Prosecutor or Stikkie for that.

There are nice campgrounds in the little village of Bluffton -- oh yeah, this is all in Iowa. I am about 20-25 miles away from the potential starting point. I'm in Minnesota.

Temps? Could be cold, as in say 45-ish, if it were raining. Could be horrendously hot. Tell ya what I'll look on www.weather.com to see the "average" weather that time of year. Gimme a second.

Oh yeah, I better KEEP NS on the e-mail list this time around, even if he says he's not coming..... So he doesn't show up, camped at one of the locations, and giving me information up the wazoo on the location (like I don't know... and like I haven't sent out SIX tons of info and THREE maps to everyone, BUT he hasn't seen it cuz he "wasn't coming" and I took his name off the list). LOL! ;-P to NS!!

Looking at May for Burr Oak, Iowa (about 5-ish miles east of Bluffton).......

These temps come from monthly averages. I grabbed the figure on the cusp of May/June.

Record low: 25
Average low: 45 (wow, am I GOOD, or what?? See last post or so...... LOL)

Average high: 75
Record high: 95

Ave precip: Right around 4". It says June is the highest month for precip. So should have fairly decent water, I'd think.

I have seen very, very, very light snow and very cold temps on various Memorial Day weekends, one week earlier. And last year in April, on a Sierra Club trip to Yellow River State Forest it was around 80. So, per usual, it could be anything.

Norwegian????!?!? No way in hell!

You're talkin' 'bout the folks down on the TURKEY RIVER -- next river south of the Upper Iowa -- and it runs through Spillville, Bohemian heaven... as in nationality, NOT crazy, free-spirted artsy community. LOL! Actually, I think Dvorak wrote one of his great works there in 1893 or so. Big celebration in 1993!!
