Blue Knob Pennsylvania “Hey TT'ers, I'm thinking about taking a trip this Spring with two of my nonhiking buddies to Blue Knob Pennsylvania. We all live in Louisiana. We will be flying into Pittsburg so unfortunately, I can't bring my mountain bike. I've heard there are some good multiuse trails there. One of my friends is from nearby Claysburg and will be visiting with his folks. We will be staying at the resort near the Clubhouse. I would like to get in some dayhikes and maybe an overnight hike while there. Anybody have any tips or suggestion on the area? I don't have a date yet but I'm thinking April or early May.” 8:02:33 AM 1/20/05 “I think Blue Knob is the second highest point in Pennsylvania at like 3200 feet. At one point I think they thought it was the highest, but that has since changed to Mt. Davis at 3218 feet. I'm not sure the actual elevation for Blue Knob though. I'd like to get out there and check it out sometime.” 8:06:04 AM 1/20/05 “There is a trail called the Lost Turkey Trail out there. Not sure how many miles. Google Pennsylvania parks or Lost Turkey Trail. A good friend got into an argument with me on a segment of that trail and took off in the wrong direction. That was about 20 years ago, and I still call him the Lost Turkey.” 8:37:15 AM 1/20/05 “I often wonder, what is the most dramatic mountain in Pennsylvania is. Is it Blue Knob?” 8:40:02 AM 1/20/05 “looks like the summit of Blue Knob isn't in the Park, but the elevation is 3,136 feet.” 8:45:21 AM 1/20/05 “the Lost Turkey Trail sounds pretty cool.” 9:00:15 AM 1/20/05 “The summit of Blue Knob is at the ski resort, where I'll be staying with my non hiker buddies part of the time. I could get one of my buddies to drop me off at the far end of the Lost Turkey trail and hike back uphill to the summit at the resort. It is 26 miles long, so it would be a long overnight hike. May need three days and two nights. Once I set a date in I'll post it and if anyone wants to join me they are welcome. It will be in April or early May.” 9:00:30 AM 1/20/05 “http://blueknob.com I've skiied there. The lost turkey trail has a trail head there. There's mountain bike trails there, cross-country ski trails too. The area is about 45 minutes away from me.” 9:04:58 AM 1/20/05 “Thanks for the help guys. I hope the Lost Turkey, is no so named for lost hikers.” 5:45:17 PM 1/20/05 “Well, my friend gets turned around easily. We had hiked uphill to a knob all the way from the car, no downhill at all. I showed him the trail down, even showed him both our boot prints in the mud, and he swore they were somebody else's boot prints and it was a coincidence that they looked like our boots, and took off uphill. I took off my pack and sat on a rock. My other buddy came up and asked what happened, took off his pack, and raced after him. He came back a little chagrined. Oh, and I had the food, stove, and tent. That was my experience on the Lost Turkey Trail with the lost turkey.” 6:32:08 PM 1/20/05 “the state park has lots of nice hiking and mtn bike trails, and some excellent views. one small stream has nice cascades. I think the section of the lost turkey trail from the state park to burnt cabin picnic area is the nicest.” 8:43:32 AM 1/21/05 blue knob “hey ,iused to ski there a lot when i lived in d.c.they dont call it blue knob for nothing!!better take plenty of cold weather gear.lol” 8:53:19 AM 1/21/05
