“My pc has recently gotten really slow again-like 30 seconds to open a document or folder or program. It even takes a minute for a program to close!!! This has happened before and my friend cleaned it up but its been so long ive forgotten how to dit.Any ideas?thankx” 1:19:59 AM 1/21/05 “Get one of the popular programs to remove spyware. You probably have several running on your computer.” 7:31:18 AM 1/21/05 “Also try defragmenting the hard drive.” 7:34:50 AM 1/21/05 “If it's a PC Clone make sure it wasn't built Ten plus years ago using a 126!” 8:01:33 AM 1/21/05 “Also check your cookies. They can slow you down.” 8:23:54 AM 1/21/05 “Try going to "Tools" and then to "internet options". Delete cookies, and also delete temporary internet files and clear history. Lots of times this will help to speed things up.” 8:26:33 AM 1/21/05 “Davexx -- is all that advice in English?.. or do you need more explanation?” 11:43:46 AM 1/21/05 “Use Linux.” 3:29:15 PM 1/21/05 3:38:31 PM 1/21/05 3:41:02 PM 1/21/05 “Unfortunately, SpyBot is not doing anymore free updates. But they are still distributing the tool, as is.” 3:41:53 PM 1/21/05 “also what pinkbubelz said is good to do too ps - stop watching porn on your computer! hehehehe could not resist the urge....you're such a pervert :p” 3:42:31 PM 1/21/05 spybot updates “I'm not sure which spybot you're using, but I see nothing anywhere on the site that says they are not doing free updates anymore. In fact, I just now updated mine. Where did you get that information, I'd like to see it. Perhaps you've got one of the programs that tries to use their name. From the Spybot Search & Destroy site: "If you search for the keyword Spybot on Altavista or some other search engines, you'll got a bunch of sponsored results. One of them is Spyware Doctor, who seem to be agressively using our name Spybot to advertise their software. We receive a bunch of emails every week from people complaining to us and asking for a refund. After some mails we usually find out that those people believed they had bought Spybot-S&D, but actually got Spyware Doctor."” 7:19:39 PM 1/21/05 “I was told my computer was slow due to all the pictures and things I had saved on my hard drive and that I should put the pics on discs. Doing the spyware thing did not help my computer speed. Now I have a new computer, and even though I have not signed up for faster internet service yet, my computer is logging on at a faster speed.” 2:09:31 AM 1/22/05 “I can't remember where I read that SpyBot wasn't doing free updates anymore, but if that's not true, that's great. Perhaps some reporter got their facts screwed up.” 8:45:49 AM 1/22/05 “I use both, spybot and ad-aware. spybot is cool because you can also select that it warns you everytime something so done to your regedit. I like that, and it did safe me a couple times.” 10:10:38 AM 1/22/05 “Windows Machine? Try Lavasoft's Ad-Aware for removing any kind of malware, etc from your computer. Try running the Windows Clean-up manager available on the Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools menu. Try defragmenting the hard drive. If you're handy with hardware, you can try a RAM upgrade. That always helps speed up a computer. Finally, I would recommend using Firefox to browse the web as opposed to Internet Explorer. The browser is far more secure than Internet Explorer could ever even dream of being. And best of all, it's not built by Microsoft. ![]() ![]() last edited: 1/22/05 11:45:53 AM” 11:40:53 AM 1/22/05 “I agree. Firefox is the bomb. I prefer AdAware over Spybot.” 12:25:15 PM 1/22/05 “UPDATE**** I already use spy bot,ad aware and AVG. I regularly delte temp files etc. Empty recycle bin. And of course i DNOT USE Exploder but rather Avant... Anyway my pc was way slow despite all this in place but the one thing i forgot to do was defrag. Yup,defrag fixed the problem -thanks for all your replies. I wish web boards would post basic pc troubleshooting guides... I know this ? gets asked all the time on every board....” 11:42:50 PM 1/22/05
