SLOW PC...HOW TO SPEED IT UP?THANX

“My pc has recently gotten really slow again-like 30 seconds to open a document or folder or program.It even takes a minute for a program to close!!!
This has happened before and my friend cleaned it up but its been so long ive forgotten how to dit.Any ideas?thankx”

“Get one of the popular programs to remove spyware. You probably have several running on your computer.”

“I'm not sure which spybot you're using, but I see nothing anywhere on the site that says they are not doing free updates anymore. In fact, I just now updated mine. Where did you get that information, I'd like to see it.
Perhaps you've got one of the programs that tries to use their name.
From the Spybot Search & Destroy site:

spybot is cool because you can also select that it warns you everytime something so done to your regedit. I like that, and it did safe me a couple times.”

Try Lavasoft's Ad-Aware for removing any kind of malware, etc from your computer.

Try running the Windows Clean-up manager available on the Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools menu.

Try defragmenting the hard drive.

If you're handy with hardware, you can try a RAM upgrade. That always helps speed up a computer.

Finally, I would recommend using Firefox to browse the web as opposed to Internet Explorer. The browser is far more secure than Internet Explorer could ever even dream of being. And best of all, it's not built by Microsoft.

I already use spy bot,ad aware and AVG.
I regularly delte temp files etc.
Empty recycle bin.
And of course i DNOT USE Exploder but rather Avant...

Anyway my pc was way slow despite all this in place but the one thing i forgot to do was defrag.
Yup,defrag fixed the problem -thanks for all your replies.
I wish web boards would post basic pc troubleshooting guides...
