“I once had a secretary that was blind. She brought her guide dog to work everyday (or the guide dog brought her to work depending on how you look at it). That dog (those dogs - she had three while I was there) were wonderful. When on harness and working, we knew not to interfere because that's how the dog is trained. But when off harness and resting, we could play with the dog and pet it and interact. After several hours of dealing with overly contentious attorneys and their clients, it was a great stress reliever. The dogs were NEVER a problem. Wish I could say the same for people.

Maybe that guy (who kicked the dog) is secretly terrified of them. Maybe he had a horrible experience with a dog that scarred him for life. Maybe he paniced when it was close to him and the only thing he could do was kick out at it. Or maybe he's just downright MEAN, in which case he's pitiful. Some people don't value animals and only see them as property and annoyances. They miss out.”

I for one get terrified when I see lose dogs running around on my walks. I have been attacked one too many times and have the big scars to prove it. Those teeth can really hurt...believe me, and just because they are little dogs doesnt mean they can hurt less, I have been torn up twice by little dogs and had to have stitches....It is the reason I bring a staff along just to walk the neighborhood every morning. I almost needed it today when a little tiny dog thought about approaching me.”

“Dang Spirit. Just when your posts were about to annoy me (yeah, I know, not one to talk ...) you inspired me. This dude is always walking around our area, and everone always wonders why he carries a sharpened bo staff with him for everyone to see. I always thought "self-defense", but never quite liked that answer because he looks like the type that's not afraid of anybody and probably knows how to defend himself (looks like that sharpshooter dad from a couple years ago). But self-defense from dogs has to be it! I'm sure that's why he carries that thing. It makes perfect sense. Thanks! Mystery solved (probably).”
