Primal Quest today!

“The coverage was pretty good for a 2 hour show about a 6 day race. Although it seems that a "mini series" type coverage would do the job better, it's obvious that this is not a mainstream interest. Heck, look at the response to this post.

After wondering how they would cover the tragedy, I think CBX did a pretty sensitive job.

I did notice more "advertising" of brands during the race than last year. Hey, has anyone heard more about Mark Burnett and the Eco? He made that bold statement and nothing since....”

“So far it has been great to watch although I would like to see more of how other teams did...they focus on the 5 or so in front and the one in back...I am one of those who can watch this sort of stuff for hours...I like the strategy of Nike...those guys are really experienced....you can see why they always score so well...and Golite's bad luck is just incredible...”

“I havn't been able to watch and I'm totally bummed! It starts at 5:30 mountain time and the only vcr left in the house that records is on a kids tv that isn't hooked to cable......

“So far I have really enjoyed the coverage. I agree with mata about the uneven coverage but it would be a hard edit to do much more. I love golites team man they are tough and really roll with the adversity. The whole bike thing would set me on a tirade as big as everest. Cant wait for tonites.

Anyone else think the producer's 14 year old son did the background music for the PQ this year? lol, those guitar riffs are killing me! Especially when you can't hear what the athlete is saying over them.

“Finale today at 1 here in Chicago. Since my local ABC network has decided football is more important! I am forced to head downtown to the PQ Finale party being held by CAARA and socialize. Robyn Benincasa is going to be there so it'll be worth the drive.

“Forgot my camera birch cause I ended up running to catch the train, sorry. She is much more feminine than she appears on tv and was super nice. The real stories behind the race were fantastic. I guess there was a neck and neck finish between teams 3 and 4 that had them sprinting for the end that wasn't shown on tv. Teams Merril/Wigwam and Supplier pipeline finished within 1 1/2 minutes of each other after days of racing. The organizer of CAARA was a volunteer and at headquarters for the whole interchange when Nike and GoLite were on the ropes in the lightning. Unfortunately the pub couldn't receive the channel broadcasting the race??? Robyn's mom was sending text messages saying that the show was basically a recap until the last 10-15 minutes where they showed teams finishing. Sounds like a little bit of a let down. What does the TT contingency think?

Robyn was lamenting the fact that the World Championships in Scotland are at the same time as our favorite MI race but is determined to get in touch with the Infiterra guys. She asked me about details of the race. I gave well deserved rave reviews.

We did see first hand pictures of Primal Quest and a recent race in Sweden taken by Robyn's boyfriend (sorry birch) and support crew guy. It was his birthday so we had cake and sang. They also handed out some swag and I hooked up with a guy from a Chicago team that has a contact if I want to do the Chill. Thinking about it. It's my least favorite race due to the usual crappy weather.

Look for Robyn at next week's Iron Man in Kona, HI. She's been approached by NBC to do some cameos.

That would really cool to start seeing the big racers locally. I think the infiterra guys have a chance to really grow, a big name team could do it for em.
