hopefully be on the trail by 8am Saturday, after shuttling and gearing up. If weather is permitting, we can have lunch on the summit of Old Rag, if weather is bad, we should have lunch in the Weakly Hollow Birdnest (dayuse shelter). It would be nice to be in camp by 3-4pm on Saturday.

I believe the full moon is April 24.

It is the Frog Moon, Pink Moon or Planter's Moon.

I had an inch of snow overnight there about this time of year 25 years ago.

But it has probably melted by now. :)

are y'all still planning on camping near the top of Robertson? I kinda doubt that there is room enough at the summit for 14 people to camp but maybe you are thinking of a different place than I am.

well there will be leaves at the lower altitudes, just not at the top near skyline. Think I'm gonna be car camping there this weekend.

HOI, I think ENS originally wanted to camp up on Robertson, but its been changed to where we camped last time, out along the Corbin (cabin, mountain, cutoff? forget which one) trail.

yeah, we'll camp in the same area we did last year. There is a nice water source closeby and cool rock formations and plenty of room for our tent city.

is there a Ranger/visitor station close by so I can stop in Sunday and pick up some info on the park?
Ewker

I won't be getting there until Saturday morning. I have a flight that returns to Harrisburg from Springfield, IL at Midnight Friday. So I will be one tired pup come Saturday. I wouldn't recommend a pre-hike party ala North Fork Mountain style for this trip. That would just be deadly to climb Old Rag with a hangover.
EarthNsky

ENS, wanna swap places. I can handle a flight instead of a 10 hr drive..talk about being tired.....zzzzzzzzzzz
Ewker

the Ranger stations are all on Skyline Drive. There is one near Front Royal, VA, not too far off of I-66 on the Skyline Drive. That would probably be your best bet.

There is also little huits near the bottom of old rag where a Ranger hangs out with maps, etc....But im not sure if its always open...

I hear ya Ewk - I've done that drag along I-81 a million times. I'll be driving down to the Smokies in the end of April. Arrive at the Alum Cave trail around 3am and then get up at 7am and start climbing LeConte.

yeah, that's true. there is a small stand at the big old Rag parking area and I think they sell small Old Rag souveniers and maps.
