Bison, I disagree. Yes, the west is very dramatic and rugged, but that doesnt make it better, just different. There are things I love about the east that you just cant get out west.

BTW, you still havent made it to the smokies, remember? I think you will change your mind when we go there next month.

If you want nice greenery I'd suggest Washington state, not Washington D.C.

Washington state, more greenery than the East with real mountains and large wilderness areas. Again, why come East?

the east is probably great, it seems like you guys have alot more history over there, im interested in that kind of too. But im glad I live in the west, I like the solitude that is easier to find. But I want to see the vegatation and such in the east.

We only went to Washington DC because it is our capital and I have never been East of the Mississippi other than passing through the international airport in Miami. Ive heard good things about Washington state, big mountains and everything. I lived in Northern Idaho for a while (also a good area for hiking) and I never went to western Washington but Eastern Washington was fun.

Im defending the East more than Bison and im not even from there lol :-).

we have Gettysburg! The ultimate American battlefield!

Where in the Smokies are you taking Bison? LeConte is pretty dramatic, it rises 5300 feet above its base.

PA doesn't have anything dramatic, elevationwise :( However, it makes that up with it's awesome trails and killer gorges and canyons.

ENS, I am not sure yet. I was thinking Leconte, but also want to go up to some of the balds. I definately want to hike the Chimney Tops. It is a short, but beautiful hike. We are prolly just going to car camp and then make our way over to Ashville.

hehe, I love to argue too :-)). But I seiously think the East would be a fun place to go hiking in sometime, it would be quite the change from the Wyoming places im used to.

Cool, The tetons are nice and very big lol. Too bad I live in the eastern part of the state :-(... right between the Black Hills and big Horns.

What are the smokies like? ive heard of the but i havnt seen any pictures or anything.

pics from the Smokies and nearby areas

The only thing that's more fun around here than arguing is taking advantage of Ewker's insecurity about his age -

“I never said they weren't beautiful, but you you can't say they're dramatic like the mountains out west or that there's any comparison to be made between the wilderness experience in the East and that of the West, there just isn't any, everything in the West is bigger, that's just the way it is.

I'm knocking our mountains here because they're puny, they're not mountains, they're hills. We don't have wilderness here, we have little tiny areas that are set aside.

OUCH, bison... if you love the west so much, then why don't you marry it! the east doesn't want you anymore, traitor : P

Bison, there are lots of areas to go that are beautiful in the east. Lots of trails that are very strenuous to hike even more so than the west.
The basic difference between the west mountains and east mountains is altitude.

I enjoy seeing views like this

and views like this

Ahhh now I see them, definitely nice views, but I'm talking about the wilderness experience as a whole, and the East has some sublime views but of course not nearly as many as the West.

you can get much more wilder in the east. Nothing like driving past all those trailers with cars up on blocks wondering if these guys are like the ones in Deliverance...lol

Last year I saw the Rockies for the First time. I flew into Bozeman, MT, Surrounded by Mountain ranges too numerous for me to remember.

We drove into Glacier with one other Rocky Mountain Virgin.

I had never been so awestruck in my life. I think most of our sentences started with "Holy F***ing S**T!

BM, I can say that Denver has the most single females who like to be in the outdoors than any place I have seen.

I wonder if that is why Bison is moving there ;)
