PRINTER FRUSTRATIONS WITH LAYOUT ETC.!he lp please

“I am having major problem getting my HP psc 2410 printer to print a gif i made in actual size.It will only let me print to fit full page or in a photo size layout(4x6,8x10 etc.).My image is 350pixels wide and 500 pixels high.
The instructions are useless.This is a copier,fax,scan,phot printer.
Any ideas?help!”

“got me... sorry. I have both an old HP 720 and a 1-year-old Canon i9100. Both print to whatever size the .jpg or .tif is set to in Photoshop. And I use it set to inches.

I take it you have actually printed it? Sounds stupid, but if a person knew nothing about printers might assume it only printed to those sizes, whereas it prints your photo to fit... and you select the size of paper.”

Anyhoo... are you bringing it out of some photo editing program? If so, do you have it set to bleed to the edges of the paper? How many dots-per-inch is your photo resolution? You don't have it set to some "fit-to-page" option, or a borderless option?

Again, the stupid questions:
1. Are you new to this printer and/or printing photos?
2. If not, have you had similar problems before printing?
3. Are you printing out of some photo editing program and if so, what program?”

“no,its a gif i made with fireworks/macromedia...cant i disable the stupid photo program that this printer just defaults to.It seems from the printer info that they dont mention anything about printing a file from your pc.Its like they only want you to scan or print photos.At thi spoint i want to throw this friggin thing.It is so counter intuitive.
I mean it wont let me even print a text document i guess unless i print it in photo format i guess...”

“Try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers. It's possible the drivers have become corrupted.”

“I haven't a clue, sorry. My guess is that the driver for the printer is forcing it to one of those options.

If you have a document program like Microsoft Word, try embedding the photo in a document, scaled to the size you want, and printing it that way.”

“its not a photo...i have to stress its a GIF-an image i made in fireworks.

“If it has a .gif extension, your printer driver doesn't care, it thinks it is a photo.

Did you try embedding the image in a document?”

“yes,its .gif extension.
Ive opened it in my browser,however i cant resize there.it will print tho but just to about 65% of actual size.
I tried pasting it in word and notepad to no avail.


here's something else:
When i go into custom settings in the hp printer hell program i set the up dimensions/size in actual size or pixels but when i click 'next' the damn photo wizard pops up and asks me what damn photo size i want to choose”

“Well, with no experience with this kind of thing, I'm afraid I can't be any more help to you. If you embed the photo in a document, and print the document, and it still pops up and asks you what size you want the photot to be, then either the software is a piece of crap, or the drivers are installed correctly.

Have you tried printing a text document, with no picture, to see what happens then?”

“My guess is you will stump anyone without experience with this particular driver/printer combination. I've never seen anything that works quite the way he says it does. My guess is that it's been written to be as easy to use as possible. This kind of design means that if you want to do something other than the options that are presented, you're out of luck.

I suggest that davexx contact HP's customer support and complain mightily.

I downloaded IRFANview(free) and opened my file and printed it no problem in actual size.
Why the hell cant HP get this right???”
