“Y2 check out Cades Cove. Nice views of the range there and they have some living history there as well. I think there is a short hike to one of the Waterfalls from there. I forget which one though. Laurel Falls is what comes to mind. The mountain that you see in front of you when you drive into Gattlinburg is Mt. LeConte and it towers over the town. You could get in some dayhiking in all directions from the visitor center just south of Gattlinburg. If you want a short dayhike that is challenging, climb the Chimney Tops. I think it's a 5 mile round trip. It's a pretty steep climb and it could be rough if there is ice and snow towards the top. It's a knife edge at the top but the views towards LeConte are amazing. Mt. LeConte should be snowcapped right now. Have a great time.”

Really now my dear. this would be an awesome trail, not really hard though. (the dayhiker owner back then said it's pretty difficult, but I checked the bookk and it don't seam like it)

okay...I am posting them here:

Maddron Bald Trail:
7.3 miles, elevation gain: we start at about 1850 trail ends at about 5350/ 5400. creek crossings rocky trail on upper parts.

AT: We'll be hiking about 10 miles on the AT.
Oh and 0.7 miles on Snake Den Ridge Trail.

Mt. Cammerer Trail: 0.6 miles (got to hike up there to see the 360 view)

Hike back out: That's gonna a easy day, lots of miles though!
Gabes Mtn. Trail: 6.6 miles. Stream crossings. 2240 / 3300/ 2180

Lower Mt. Cammerer Trail:
7.5miles 3600/2400

That's it!! We're on your way to a nice restaurant!!

Oh... A couple campsites and two shelters on the trails. Campsite #29 I think it rationed. #35 and #34 are not. Which I don't think we need to worry about #34 anyways. Shelters: Davenport Gamp and Cosy Knob. Ha, there is even a campground in Cosby next to the ranger station. (if we want to shortcut the trip). I am not gonna worry about reservations. If they are full we can always camp close to the campsite or smile all sweet and scared. We'll get a site.

If we decide that it's too far we can cut it short and cut across on the Low Gap Trail. Total milage for this trip as planned would be a little over 32 miles. I know it it's a lot for an overnighter, but def. doable. (depending on the weather of course) Just like I said, we can cut it short if we need to. Elevation isn't bad at all. First day will be the hardest, and that's not too bad either. Milage will be the worst of the hike if we decide to hike the complete loop.

I don't have any days off, so I'd driving down after work on Friday and back up after the hike on Sunday. I'd be one tired pup. This is going to be a sweet hike though.”

“I'd need to rope someone from the north into going. That's a long drive to undergo alone. That's a lot of mileage though for a winter trip. Remember that there is limited daylight and with the ice and snow you'll encounter above 4000 feet, it will make the going get tougher.”
