“Hey ALL, I'm looking into getting a 5-7day pack, I have a older coleman peak 1 from scouts but its pretty beat up. I was thinking about the Kelty Tornado 4900, As always I value all of your opinons so have at it ;-) Should I get it or not and if you know of another pack that I should look at, Thanks again, ~SBH~” 8:38:53 PM 1/25/05 “Gregory Reality. Fits good, rides good, wears good.” 8:42:20 PM 1/25/05 “Gregory Whitney, 5400. Ladies dig a Sherpa.” 8:43:38 PM 1/25/05 “I did forget to include a budget of 200.00 on this one, I know its not much but its what I got, the Tornado seems good for that price range, any other ideas I'll be sure to check those packs out ~SBH~” 8:47:50 PM 1/25/05 $158 8:55:28 PM 1/25/05 “I walked into REI with a really old day pack. Tried on a flurry of packs until the sales rep was dizzy. I picked up "my" pack and said "I'll think about it". I think I got a great deal for my Gregory.” 8:59:41 PM 1/25/05 “How much do you carry? I would think the reality would be a little on the small side for most non-ultralighters for 7 days. I carry a Gregory Robson for weeklong hikes and will probably never have another pack for long hikes, but it's a bit out of your price range.” 9:00:34 PM 1/25/05 “You can get a lot of gear in the side pockets of the reality.” 9:07:23 PM 1/25/05 “I'm looking for a pack that has seven day compacity for my longer trips, I'm going to keep my lighter old peak 1 for day hikes and one nighters, The gregory packs look great but exceed my budget, The reality is alittle small for the seven day needs, I would consider myself a lightweight hiker but not ultralight ~SBH~” 2:49:46 AM 1/26/05 “Here is a Dana Designs Glacier with a "buy-it-now" price of just exactly what you're willing to pay. I LOVE the Dana Designs packs, and this one looks to be large enough at 5200 cu/in.” 1:03:33 PM 1/26/05 “I have a 5500 ci Kelty pack - the Commanche, which I think was the Red Cloud just renamed for Gander Mountain stores. Its held up very well and is now my winter pack as I've reduced my summer weight and bulk. The Gregory that bbw posted looks like it would be a good pack for $158.” 1:11:54 PM 1/26/05 “I'm with hobbit, Dana Designs are good packs, and depending on where you buy, you can find them for $200. You can also find gregorys on ebay for about that. And my local shop has some nice MountainHardware packs. If I was you and I couldn't find a cheap place to buy the Dana, I'd go to an REI, or whatever you have, and buy the cheapest of the Gregory Adventure series, the Shasta, for an extra $50. You'll miss out on the extra pockets, but get the nice suspension. Another option is to keep an eye out for clearance stuff. I saved $150 on my Gregory Robson Pro since it's discontinued now, and I've seen some other Gregory stuff on clearance as well.” 1:19:37 PM 1/26/05 “Granite Gear!” 1:26:27 PM 1/26/05 “Do you know what the name of your Peak One pack is? I have an old one as well that I almost gave away. I love that pack. Very comfortable. I have a Gregory Palisades pack that will hold 5-7 days worth of sheyat! The Kelty pack is a good buy too!” 1:55:22 PM 1/26/05 “Moonbow Gearskin - 'nuf said” 3:35:48 PM 1/26/05 “Sorry wounded knee I dont know the name of my old peak 1, I can tell you I've had since 96 , I bought it off a older scout, I got it for 30 bucks and it has earned that many times over. Gregory packs seem to be the place to go, I'm still torn though, the Kelty has all the features I want but from what I hear the Gregory packs have a better suspension, I wish there was a store that I could go and try them on at, I've tried every store in my area and they said they wouldnt have any till march or april ~SBH~” 5:40:39 PM 1/26/05 “Now is a good time 'cause all the shops are dumping their '04 stuff to move in the 05's. I picked up a sweet Osprey here: http://www.backcountrygear.com/index.cfm.” 2:55:15 PM 1/28/05 “The ULA P-2 is a tried and true pack that is lightweight for what it provides. Many rave about it. But if you want to be really, really cool, the Six Moon Designs Starlite will impress all those in the know. Eastwood voice So what you have to ask yourself is, do you want to be lightweight or really lightweight? Well, which is it punk? 8^)” 4:28:19 PM 1/28/05 try this link “A great clearance on gregory packs http://www.backcountrygear.com/catalog/clearancelist.cfm?cat=packs” 4:32:47 PM 1/28/05 “Thanks for the tips on the Backcountry website, also those starlite packs are pretty cool. I consider myself a light weight hiker, I have done the ultra-light thing before but it just wasnt for me. ~SBH~” 7:18:12 AM 1/29/05 “Your welcome. I'm always on the look out for great deals.” 11:35:52 PM 1/29/05 “Another vote for the ULA P-2. It's juts a touch over $200 but worth the money.” 6:54:11 AM 1/30/05
