Netflix vs Blockbuster Online

“ive tried netflix and liked it very much. i now see B.O. is offering their monthly service for 14.99 a month (i believe netflix is 17 a month), plus certs redeemable for two free in-store rentals a month. i think that would be a very good deal if their selection was as good as netflix's. anyone used both and have comments on comparison?”

“Netflix has many more choices in movies. Especially foreign and older movies. You can go online to netflix and check out their library. Also my friend says Netfix's site is easier to navigate.”

“Yes, looks like there is a price war going on between the two. The Blockbuster price was for 12 months if I remember correctly, then I'm not sure how much the price would be. Netflix has been good to me, and a good friend of mine uses Blockbuster and likes it too. I think Netflix has more distribution centers and movies though. I live in a rural area and get my movies in less than 48 hrs in most cases.”

“I feel this is a customer loyalty issue. I've refused to switch to Blockbuster just because they are a few bucks cheaper. The certificates didn't impress me when they first started since they were still charging late fees at the time. Now though, when you go to the store the shelves are empty. It's hard to get a film at the store with unlimited viewing passes and no late fees. Besides, as a Gold Rewards member I don't have to pay the annual fee and I still get the coupons for a free floor rental each month.

Netflix now has it so my wife has a seperate que so I don't have to try and put all the films for us into one list. The bad part about that is that my account can still only have 3 films out at once so she only gets hers 1 at a time when I can have 2 out. If they increased the # of films I could have out to 4 or 5 it'd be great without paying more it'd be great.”

“Blockbuster uses store inventories to ship movies, so they probably have more new releases, while Netflix probably has more indie movies.”

“Never used the BB service, but I've been told that on mayny occasions a particular movie has been unavailable (all checked out at the store). I've never had to wait for a movie on Netflix and I especially like that they have many of the more obscure titles, documentary type films and such.”

“From my experience, Netflix has everything. Even all the Sundance films you can't find at Blockbuster. I just got a Bulkowski DVD in the mail from Netflix...now tell me they don't have everything? LOL”

“crash, isn't there a limite to how long you can keep a BB video? They say no late fees, but I think if you keep it longer than a month, you have to buy it. I'm not positive.

I just canceled Netflix. My feeling is that there are only maybe 2 good movies to rent per month. I can rent them from my grocery store for $1 on a weekday and $3 on a weekend, so $17. a month is unnecessary.

Even if I go to BB or Hollywood Video for $3.+ per movie, getting 2 per month it's about $7+, so that is still $10 less than Netflix. Yes, you can get more videos at Netflix, but there just aren't that many good movies out there, and I don't like to rewatch old movies unless they are the real oldies that I watch on tv.”

“I agree about the hard to find movies being at Netflix. My que is loaded with BBC videos like The Office and Doctor Who. I also search for films with actors in them like Bruce Campbell, Willem Dafoe, and Dolph Lundgren but a lot of their films are not A list movies so Blockbuster carries very few of them. They're getting better but they're not quite there yet.”

youre not looking very hard then. lots of very good movies get made all the time, its just the mainstream movies that arent very good very often

its been my experience netflix has a very good selection, although i was disappointd in some omissions. however, it may have been a case of those particular movies not being on dvd, as opposed to not being available thru netflix”

“crash, I do consider indie movies too, like the one I just saw in the movies called Sidways that won the Golden Globe award. I guess the other reason I can't find good movies is because I see the good ones in the theater, which leaves me with few to pick from at the video store.”

“Family Video came to town and Hollywood Video had to lower their prices to compete. I haven't paid over $1 per movie for two years. Now both those places are raising their prices so I may check out net flicks. Thanks guys.”

“Don't forget that Walmart has their own DVD rental system, been around for several years now. They don't have a catchy name for it like "Netflix", but its always been cheaper than Netflix. Not sure if that's true now.

Nigal, these stores that have the same prices are price fixing, which is against the law if they have a meeting to decide on what prices they will charge, but if they just call each other and ask like they are a patron about what the each others prices are, they can get away with it.”

I dropped my first batch of returns at the PO last thursday at noon and I still haven't received my next three.
A one week turnaround is not what I was hopeing for.
My nearest center is in Baton Rouge, LA.”

Reckon last weekends storms had an impact? Did you get an email saying the movies had been received by Netflix? If not, report them 'lost' in the mail and they will send the next ones in your queue.”

“I might hold one from the next batch till next monday and send it back then to see if the turnaround improves.
I haven't checked my email from netflix, better do that tonight, but I'm expecting my movies to be in this afternoons mail or by tomorrow at least.
The storm may have had some impact, but shouldn't have closed Baton Rouge down. My PO was closed from 2:30 Sat till Tuesday morning.

“yeah, they should email you saying they have received what you sent back and when they send out the new ones with the projected arrival dates.

You can check on their website for that same info as well. At least then you'd know if something wacky happened in the mail or if your just getting crappy turnarounds with them.”

“I think Netflix must have closed the closest hub near me because all my movies are now going clear to either Chicago or Louisville KY. The service sucks now. I'm going to switch to Blockbuster and see how they do.”

“Netflix has admitted to reducing turn around time on it's biggest users. It's a new policy of theirs.

“I put one in the mailbox yesterday at 4:30 PM, and I got an e-mail saying it was recieved at 6:30 AM today.
During the week I get a 2 day turnaround.
I've been pretty happy.”

“I put three in my mailbox last Thursday morning.
Netflix shipped out two new this Monday, and one today. I will get two Wed if I'm lucky. I have had Monday shipments come to my house on Thursday.

Netflix doesn't ship on Sat or Sun.”
