crash I agree and I'm a Bears fan. But that was just a great play on the ball good catch good feet postion and great return for the TD. The Colts out played the bears in every way.

I'm just glad to see someone besides the Patriots in the superbowl.
gawd I hate that team.

Congratulations to the Colts, to Crash and everyone who was pulling for Indy. The Colts have deserved to get one and they finally did.

im surprised no one is bellyaching about the antoine bethea int/questionable step-out. to a biased fan, it might have appeared that he stepped out of bounds after the pick, but thats only because of the angle. i think a dead-on angle (if there was one) would show bethea staying inbounds by the hair of his big toe”

i thought the camera work was amazing in this game, especially considering the weather...many of the replays were spot on

While I am disappointed in the Bears, I wholeheartedly congratulate the Colts. Well done! I am so happy for them and for Peyton.

anyone else disappointed in the lack luster half time show?

i'm thinking they should just do away with this special all together, or at least stop trying to make it so spectacular

It hadn't even been 10 hours since the confetti flew in Miami before the "experts" were asking the question, "Does Peyton Manning have to win 2 Superbowls to secure his legacy?"

Immediately after that the Colts quickly petitioned the NFL to hold Superbowl 42 on Lake Superior. The theory being that if Peyton can win the Superbowl WHILE actually walking on water, maybe his critics will be satisfied. I'm thinking probably not.

re: grossman

many may disagree, especially the disgruntled bears fans, but i think its still too early to give up on the kid. this was his first year getting more than just a couple of starts. however, i do think the position should be open to competition next year. i think griese (if he is still with the bears) deserves a shot

The Colts did not win the Superbowl. The Bears lost it. Same result I agree and the team able to stick to the task reigned victorious, absolutely. IMH and uninformed opinion that kick-off touchdown was one of the worst things that could have happened. Not sure whether it was the hype or overconfidence or what but the Bears never seemed to settle down. Any time something positive occured, focus was lost and they threw it away with a turnover. They just didn't deal with the task at hand thus allowing the Colts to settle into a rythm, and gain confidence with every possession. Pretty much a deadly combination.

Rex looks about 12. Most definitely a maturity issue. Granted it would be tough would it be one sit on the sidelines in a super(bowl) charged environment and run in for 5 minutes a couple of times during the game and produce. I guess that's why these guys are paid the big bucks though...

All year, Chicago counted on the fact its defense could control the game.

That made it possible for them to win with a serviceable quarterback like Grossman.

Last night, Indy's offense owned Chicago's defense. And that meant that Grossman had to try to be a hero.

So, I fault the Chicago defense more than Grossman.

hutchy, part of winning is not panicking, maintaining your focus, and not being overconfident or underconfident

i suppose thats gonna be the knock on the colts from now on. they dont win superbowls. the opponents lose

colts running backs combined for 190 yards. except for a big 52 yarder, the defense stuffed the bears ground game. grossman wasnt playing bad until those 2 late picks. despite the serious discrepancy in yardage, the grossman and the bears d managed the game well enough to still be in it until the hayden pick that led to a td.

yea, grossman fell apart in the 4th quarter

but THE COLTS WON

Saw part of the half-time show with the Prince. First time I ever saw him perform(?) Hope that it is the last time. I thought he stunk. It appeared that he could not sing and kept trying to get the audience to sing for him. Big bucks paid for him to entertain and he tried to pass the buck! Also, I thought he was an ugly critter.

My thoughts were: Eliminate the expensive half-time stuff. Pass the savings back in reduced ticket prices.

crash that's not what I meant. I was just amazed at the level of play (or lack thereof on the bears part) I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. Mainly I thought the colts played a decent game. Pit them against a team that had their heads in the stadium and it would have at least been entertaining.

I disagree, dhutch. The Colts blew them off the field on both sides of the line. This game was won in the trenches. I think the MVP should have been the entire offensive line.

Ice doesn't put up much fight, but then again it's not as much of a mess to clean up. Instead of scales, you get ice shavings and they eventually melt. On the other hand, fish are more nutritious. But then there's no mercury in ice. Hmmm, bit of a toss-up.

A Regional Critical Weather Day (CWD) will be declared by the Department
of Homeland Security for Arizona and New Mexico. The CWD will extend
from Feb 1, 1700Z until Feb 4, 0500Z for events related to the Super Bowl.

Also, users can get an updated CWD status on the NCEP WEB page:
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/cwd/

What is a "Regional Critical Weather Day"?
pedxing
1:43:01 PM
1/31/08

WTF?
PURPOSE: The NCEP declaration of a Critical Weather Day (CWD) will ensure that the computer, communications, and personnel resources of the NCEP are directed toward production and delivery of essential forecast products. This policy will minimize the chance of delay in the delivery of NCEP products and services to NCEP customers.

DEFINITION: A critical weather event is defined as any of the following occurring on/near the coast of or within the United States and its territories (including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam):

1. A widespread tornado outbreak;

2. A storm system causing a major precipitation event;

3. A severe cold-season storm affecting a large area with widespread heavy snow, freezing rain, or blizzard conditions; or

4. A tropical system threatening the coastline or producing excessive rainfall after moving inland.

INITIATION: The requests to declare a CWD may come from the Regional Directors, any NCEP Director, any NCEP Lead Forecaster, or the NCEP Central operations (NCO) SDM. These requests will be coordinated by the SDM with the requestor and other appropriate NCEP Centers.

DECLARATION: A CWD will be declared by the SDM based on the potential, or existence of, a critical weather event as defined above. At the time of declaration, the SDM will determine the CWD starting time and duration.

NOTIFICATION: SDM will notify the offices listed below. When a CWD is extended or terminated, the same group will be contacted.

1. NCEP Central Computing Facility (NCCF) Shift Supervisor

2. NCO On-Gall Senior Production Analyst (SPA)

3. NCEP Lead Forecasters

4. NWS Telecommunications Gateway (NWSTG) Crew Supervisor

5. NWS OSO Systems Monitoring and Coordination Center (SMCC)

6. NWS NCF operations in SSMC2

7. NCEP Users Support Services Branch (USSB)

8. NESDIS Satellite Operations Control Center (SOCC)

9. NESDIS/OSDPD Satellite Analysis Branch (SAB) Shift Supervisor

10. Employees of the World Weather Building, through an announcement made at least once per day during normal working hours, when the CWD is in effect.

11. During administrative hours, NCO Director or Deputy and NCEP Director or Chief Operations Officer.

12. GSA Customer Service Representative at FB4

NCEP CENTRAL OPERATIONS (NCO): During a CWD, the NCO Director or Deputy will normally determine that NCEP computer activities will be curtailed to meet the operational schedule. On a case-by-case basis, the SDM will have the authority to permit changes, tests, and outages, if a greater risk is created by not completing these. The SDM will attempt to assess the chance of a CWD and advise the NCO Production management Branch, the User Support Services Branch and NWSTG of a potential CWD 24 hours prior to scheduled system changes. If a CWD is declared, the following will normally be done:

1. Operational implementations will be postponed1;

2. Systems tests and changes involving the NCO computers, workstations, servers, networking and/or communications facilities will be postponed if they have the potential for adversely effecting operations; and

3. NWSTG will be requested to postpone tests and changes to their communications facilities.

Other actions that may be taken:

1. Non-operational checkout jobs and parallel development runs may be curtailed and

2. Planned systems outages by GSA or other facility contractors may be postponed2.

NOTES:

LOL...Looks like a special COMMAND to allow the government geeks to explain they exist.
