“Yeah Rich, the called it a Tarp Tent and I bought my first one from the factory in Berkley, California in 1974 while on the road. It came with a nice little stuff sack and stake sack with 6 stakes and 6 pieces of cord.
We got ripped off and so went the Tarp Tent but I bought another one in '76.
It's 10.5 X 10.5 feet with grommets every 2.5 feet on the edges and five web ties spaced like the "5" face of a dice............center and four points.
The web ties are sewed on both sides. It gave many options for set up and I got to be a tarpin' S.O.B. having set it up so many times and in so many ways.
I used that sucker many times over the years on a lot of solo trips as well as making shelter for 3-4.”

“MarkO, at first I thought it was like a tarptent with the mesh around it, but I see what you mean now. I had a tarp similar to that, but only with the 5 tie points on one side. It wore out so I replaced it with a silnylon version from Oware when silnylon first became popular.

“Thanks, it's nice to be home and I'm feeling a little better each day. Two of the worst things being in the hospital for me is the food and sleeping in a hospital. I'm glad to be home eating my own food and sleeping in my own bed. One of the nurses told me "We have wireless internet so if you come back bring a laptop." I told her I hope not to come back.”
