The section of JMT as you approach Tuolumne Meadows (from the south) is like hiking in a fairyland. Some of you are fairies and know what I'm talking about. Big pyramidy-shaped peaks rise from lush meadows all around you. Along with the rest of the JMT, it was one of my favorite sections. This shot is of Echo Peaks. echo peaks. Echo Peaks. ECHO PEAKS. Echo Peaks. echo peaks.

Here Jim cranks through another meadow with some unnamed pyramidy peak rising from it. Notice the trail even has a passing lane.

I'm gonna write a children's book called See Jim Hike. See Jim hike another section, this time approaching the pyramidy peak of Cathedral Peak.

Most all these shots are handheld trail shots taken right from the trail or just a few feet off of it. Here's the first view you see of Upper Cathedral Lake as you approach it from the south. It's a very charming area. Ah lawk it alawt.

Hey gforce, with all this Sierra snow, August will be a GREAT month to hike the trail this year! Waterfalls and wildflowers unimaginable!

You call that hiking. Where are the rocks and the mud in the trail? 8D

Great pictures as always Buck.

Nice pics Buck!

Ever been to Echo Lake? There's no trail, but its an easy ~1 mile off-trail jaunt south of Cathedral Pass.

I love and I hate how damn much planning goes into hiking out west. Here in the south we go, and we hike. Out west you have to reserve your campsites damn near six months in advance. Que sera sera. Maybe next year. This summer it'll have to be the Adirondacks instead I guess. Still not bad I suppose, but hardly Yosemite.

Bionicear, depends where you go. If you wanna hit the tourist traps like Yosemite, or the freeway often referred to as the JMT, then you're correct, but that's only because so many people recognize that those are some of the most beautiful spots on earth.

HOWEVER, there is more high-mountain country in the West than you could possibly hike in one summer, you just have to pick a "Plan "B" destination that the masses haven't read about in some lame mag like BP, or on some website. Then, just hike, no trails, no masses, no traffic jams and no permit problems.

Any "Plan B" suggestions?

Great photography indeed!

Maybe one day I will spend the money for a decent camera and my sky can be that blue too.

Did you use photoshop at all on the contrast or colors? I love the prep job, I just cant get that kind of color with my camera. I am so jealous if it is not photoshop!

I somehow missed this thread when it started so had to wade through four pages! 4 pages! of beautiful pictures which caused my bath water and oatmeal (separate containers) to get cold..now I must go add more hot water to the bath and reheat the oatmeal (Cinnamon Roll with extra brown sugar and a dash of Penzey Spices cake spice)..I think I shall eat the oatmeal while I take a bath..I like multi-tasking and besides, I'm both hungry and dirty..terrible pictures..what a complete waste of time...commentary sucked, also..I did like the giraffes, though..I thought I was the only one who knew they were indiginous (good word, wish I could spell it) to the Sierra...

We are really blessed to have such beautiful mountains and meadows. And doubly blessed to have Buck to bring them into our living rooms. Thanks.
