Increasing Wildlands “Hello everybody, I just found this site while searching for environmental forums and from a brief scan, I may lurk around here frequently. I am wondering, how many folks are in favor of additional public purchase (on a willing buyer/willing seller basis generally) of private lands in the USA? I am strongly in favor of said purchases and here in North Carolina, a couple of years ago, the state government launched an limited program to acquire another 3% of the state over a 10 years period and the results the first 3 or 4 years of this effort while fantastic indicate there may not be sufficient funding to reach stated goal. This past election saw initiatives passed allocating over 3 billion dollars in 26 states for such programs. As one who has witnessed rampant development (degrading the scope and quality of wildland hiking opportunities) these past several decades, I am heartened by such actions on the political front. ir last edited: 2/01/05 12:09:37 PM” 12:07:38 PM 2/01/05 Some are for it, some are against it: “http://www.rangemagazine.com/specialreports/05-fall-taking-liberty.pdf I guess technically, the issue is increasing the designated wildlands, these places already exist but may not continue to be wild. In some very limited instances, with large amounts of money, possibly some currently unwild areas could be reclaimed or restored to wildland status. Its one of the greatest gifts that can be left for future generations. last edited: 9/14/06 7:05:14 AM” 6:56:34 AM 9/14/06 Heres a cool map: 7:22:17 AM 9/14/06 “Good Idea I saw we start with San Francisco.” 7:23:16 AM 9/14/06 “i vote for philadelphia” 7:35:48 AM 9/14/06 “LOL...Teheran would be a NICE park wouldn't it...say a GLASS Park” 7:47:08 AM 9/14/06
