BACKPACKING PA
I had occasion to be in Philadelphia yesterday and I stopped at Border's Book Store in the Galleria. To my surprise, I found JMitch's book, "BACKPACKING PENNSYLVANIA--37 Great Hikes". The book is everything I'd hoped it would be. Jeff writes a great introduction to include basic trail history, geography, geology, environmental issues, and general backpacker issues. He then describes many of the states trails with much insight into distances, trail conditions, trailhead directions, and general personal knowledge of each trail. If you currently hike in PA or aspire to do so in the future, the book is a "must have" addition to any collection.
JMitch...thanks much for all your time and effort in creating such a great book. I hope you continue to expand to other areas.

Sorry Scorchie..
I had to take my wife to TJ hospital and never thought of letting you know I'd be in Philly. Maybe next trip!
Do yourself a favor and be sure to get this book. JMitch does a great job.

NJ, good to hear from you...not so good reason to be in Philadelphia though.

I hope all went well for your wife, and that both she, and thee are doing well.

I haven't been EAST since my ill timed trip to Nova Scotia last autumn. I plan to return to New Jersey and environs later this year. I'll make a few short trips along the Bruce Trail this Spring, for the view and re-fill my maple syrup jug.

More Later.

Dang, I pre-ordered the book several weeks ago from Amazon.com thinking I'd be one of the first to own a copy. Amazon says it won't be shipping the book til mid March.

but tanks for the info Mister NJ. Did you have the surgery on the 2nd shoulder yet?

Pennsy and PhantomSoul...yea, I had my right shoulder done on January 13th. I've been going to PT everyday for 2 hours and hopefully I'll be ready to hit the trails again late April/early May. I'm really missin' it!! (Especially after reading all the great trip reports here.)Keep the reports coming. Atleast it gives me some pleasure during my time off.

Pennsy...you should've taken your hat off for the cover shot. At least more people could've identified you !! Good luck with mediation. I hope you get back on the job soon.

I was in the Barnes and Noble store in Wilkes Barre today, they had it, mechandised nicely by "Hiking the Endless Mtns". They had an impressive selection of local hiking books, more than the Dickson city Borders, although I think that Borders has a better all around outdoor section. That's odd Pennsy I got mine I think a little earlier than the estimated time. Its a great book. JMitch did an excellent job. NJpacker hope you heal up soon and get out on the trail.

The local Barnes and Noble had the book so I cancelled the Amazon.com order.

Jeff, this book is a winner. I predict that it will be very popular and a must-have for anybody wanting to backpack in Pa. You did a great job with the preface and intro, and I can't say enough for the trail descriptions and maps. Kudos to you!
Of course, the cover is the best part. Dang, you even spelled my name right. ;o)

i hope to make at least one of them.

are you game for a tough bushwhack into fourmile run's gorge to check out a series of awesome falls off of the WRT? we can then take the turkey path up to colton point state park, and pass another falls. i've heard so much about this awesome gorge, i need to check it out.
