Gem never ceases to amaze me. While talking to her via cell phones, her voice started to echo loudly. I then realized she had just walked into the lady's room at a rest stop. For some reason, she terminated the call. ;o)

Dang, I sure missed out on some fun times. I can't believe you saw where I wrote my name in the snow. I wanted to "colorize" it, but I wasn't hydrated enough.

I wish I would have seen the ice climbers. From the pics, it looked like they top roped. I imagine that's a much safer and easier way to get up than using ice screws and stuff in that soft ice.

“there is already talk about gPib 2006. I think Phantom Soul is in charge of trip planning next year's shibang. I'll be Lt. planner though - in charge of cabin reservations. Maybe next year's trip will include some snow mobiling and maybe some real ice climbing if we can plan it and somehow get the gear.”

“yeah, they top roped. I think they were all beginners with some experienced guides. They were from Bloomsburg Univ.”

As for the legendary buttslide, you'll have to ask the good folks watching it from the bottom. I had no idea (and I mean none) about how bad it looked until they told me afterwards (though I did kinda slide off the side and do a faceplant in the snow... heh heh...)

“Ok boys and girls, here's the final installment of pictures from this trip (I think...):

PhantomSoul's gPib MMV Pictures
(MMV = 2005, for those of you who are Roman-Numerically challenged)

The frozen waterfalls were simply amazing. I don't think I've ever seen so much ice before. Also, the crampax crampons were very empowering, allowing traversal of icy ledges and slopes without killing oneself in the process. The only cooler piece of equipment has got to be the legendary river shoes, which are said to be able to levitate you across that ultra-deep, ultra-cold stream crossing...

The cabin stay was very "...And now for something completely different", but then again, that was the intention behind the whole deal.

anyway... I would have skiing gear if I would have more oportunities to go skiing. Too expensive to buy if you go only twice a year.

“It's raining hard here and most of the snow melted. Once colder temps come back all that water is bound to freeze so there should be a good amount of ice.”

“Nothing worked out for me to be able to go last weekend. After looking at the pictures, I doubt my 4 point crampons would have been safe enough to use on that much ice. X country skiing would have been a good option though, but now most of the snow has melted.”
