“Are there other folks out there who are new to "TT", but have been hiking and backpacking most of their lives? And without all the fancy backpack gear around now? For me, 30 years of backpacking, and longer of hiking. My favorite place to be....” 5:45:48 PM 2/06/05 “Welcome.” 6:00:40 PM 2/06/05 Old hiker “Hello I just joined tonite. Been backpacking & photographing the hills of NC Pa. for over 30 years. Looking forward to the next 30. Curt” 6:14:34 PM 2/06/05 “Welcome! :-)” 6:55:55 PM 2/06/05 “I'm new here. What a cool site. Backpacking and hiking since I was a kid.” 7:08:42 PM 2/06/05 “Hey Curt does that Include Pine Creek Gorge? My family has a place up there.” 7:11:06 PM 2/06/05 “Welcome! Hey curt, your in good company here with the PA folks - there's a whole gaggle of them from over on the east side of the state.” 7:55:09 PM 2/06/05 “Too bad all of us who love to be "out there" didn't grow up around each other! Wouldn't that have been a blast! My very first back pack trip didn't really count...flown in by Forest Circus helicopter, and hiked out a week later!! Trail work in a beautiful place.” 8:10:54 PM 2/06/05 Newbie “Well I'm a new to tt. also last time i hiked was in boy scouts back in 77 damn I feel old.. A tradition here is to send Phil a photo, and he will post it on his photo page, when he gets around to it. There is also a page with information like where you are from, that is helpful to get to know folks. You can click on a posters name, and view his info, and check out photos on Phil's photo page. I've never hiked in NC, but have about the same tenure in hiking as you guys. I started backpacking when I was 17, in 1967. However, I have since updated all my gear, and I'm better equiped than ever. If only I could update my knees! Welcome to the board, don't be afraid to start a few threads.” 11:06:43 PM 2/06/05 “Sorry for asking but whose Phil? Im still new here lol. I love photography, I always take pictures when I go hiking, even if its just a day hike. One time when I was getting pictures developed someone asked if I would sell them a picture I took of a sunset kind of reflecting of the side of a mountain and a lake at the same time... Since Im a nice guy I just gave him the picture lol. Ive been hiking since I was a kid, my parents used to do it alot, im only 19 but I still love it.” 11:11:53 PM 2/06/05 “Phil's a long time TT person. He maintains his own website with pics of all us nuts. There's a link over to the right to "Phil's Photo Page".” 11:21:07 PM 2/06/05 “Cool, thanks. Im going to send him a picture.” 11:24:23 PM 2/06/05 About Phil's Photopage “Actually Phil said he will not be making anymore updates to his photo page. You can post a photo to the album associated with your name and link to them from there.” 11:34:58 PM 2/06/05 “I made an album with two photos, I am trying to figure it out though so I only have two for now, one of me and one of Florence pass in the big horns when I went this June. You guys can see them if you want :-) I will be adding more when I figure it out better lol.” 11:39:16 PM 2/06/05 TT test “Before you can become a TTer you must answer this question correctly. Which of the following items in the picture do you find most disturbing: ![]() 1. The cat 2. The couch 3. The disgracing yuppie magazine which hosts the only backpacking forum on the internet where people don't go backpacking 4. The golf clubs Answer carefully for you only get one try!” 11:59:53 PM 2/06/05 “The Golf clubs :-)). I got some pictures loaded, two of them loaded twice and i dindt know it, does someone want to go look at my album to see if the pictures at least showed up for them?” 12:14:14 AM 2/07/05 “He's not married....no ring...and no wonder, always backpacking and playing golf...which woman can put up with that!!! Wow, lots of TT newbies...welcome to Oread, curthiker, jackstraw, jrb2638 and komkeen. People with years of experience are especially welcomed here.” 2:15:43 AM 2/07/05 “UMMM... The cat isnt reading the magazine... and I like cats... so it must be the magazine!” 5:29:03 AM 2/07/05 “Of course the guy in the photo was reading the magazine to make fun of it.” 5:41:40 AM 2/07/05 “Welcome aboard folks.” 6:34:40 AM 2/07/05 “Dub, Actualy Phil said he didn't want to add to people's albums on his photo page. He said the only pictures he'd be adding would be the thumbnail shots of TTers. He asked people create albums at TT now instaed of him loading all those pictures.” 7:10:05 AM 2/07/05 “Ah, forgot about the thumbnails!” 7:53:47 AM 2/07/05 “Well the cats the best part. I'd say the golf clubs, but maybe its really the combination. I have to admit that i know nothing of computers, and have no idea of how to send a picture to anyone. If anyone has the time to simply explain it to a computer kindergartner, i will try. Guess i spend too much time out of society! :~>” 8:31:36 AM 2/07/05 What's wrong? “That's the closest he gets to #&%!$. last edited: 2/07/05 10:14:51 AM” 10:13:59 AM 2/07/05 “Curthiker, Welcome. I used to work at a summer camp between Scranton and Binghamton. Love that part of the country, especially the mountain lakes. Nice pics.” 10:48:23 AM 2/07/05 “I come back from the weekend and this place is overrun by newbies... So which of you newbies is the very attractive young female that is looking for a backpacking partner?” 10:50:57 AM 2/07/05 “It is always nice to have new peeps here!!!! Welcome everyone that is new...” 10:14:32 AM 2/11/05 “thanks” 10:26:16 AM 2/11/05 “This looks like a good thread to put a brief intro in. I did a lot of hiking and backpacking growing up, including doing the 4000-footers of New England, and some outings in the Sierras and the Rockies. However, a sequence of events involving a hernia and marrying a non-outdoorsy type put an end to my hiking days except for some really short, very sporadic outings. But now, having got myself back into shape, partly on doctor's orders but mostly because I wanted to and knew I needed to anyway, I have been thinking about resuming hiking/backpacking after way too long of a hiatus. This Trail Talk forum seems like a good place to be as I begin the process. I hope that in the next year or so I may be getting out places and meeting some of the folks I see hanging out here.” 6:54:24 PM 7/16/05 “You're right, Leo. It's a good place. You will find lots of people ready, willing and able. In what area of the country are you?” 7:13:20 PM 7/16/05 “I'm in the Phoenix area. I have only been here a couple years, before that I spent 10 years in Denver. I grew up in MD. last edited: 7/16/05 7:25:16 PM” 7:16:04 PM 7/16/05 “welcome aboard” 9:05:56 PM 7/16/05 “Thanks.” 9:08:28 PM 7/16/05 “Heres a warm Welcome from Indiana :D last edited: 7/16/05 9:14:40 PM” 9:14:13 PM 7/16/05 “Welcome to Trail Talk.” 9:16:52 PM 7/16/05 “I went to school in Indiana.” 9:19:34 PM 7/16/05 “I am in ABQ NM. Some 'Zoner's here too. BTW, Anybody heard from Mary Phyll?” 9:56:07 PM 7/16/05
