"Newbies", but long time hikers

“Are there other folks out there who are new to "TT", but have been hiking and backpacking most of their lives? And without all the fancy backpack gear around now? For me, 30 years of backpacking, and longer of hiking. My favorite place to be....”

I've never hiked in NC, but have about the same tenure in hiking as you guys. I started backpacking when I was 17, in 1967. However, I have since updated all my gear, and I'm better equiped than ever. If only I could update my knees! Welcome to the board, don't be afraid to start a few threads.”

I love photography, I always take pictures when I go hiking, even if its just a day hike. One time when I was getting pictures developed someone asked if I would sell them a picture I took of a sunset kind of reflecting of the side of a mountain and a lake at the same time... Since Im a nice guy I just gave him the picture lol.

Ive been hiking since I was a kid, my parents used to do it alot, im only 19 but I still love it.”

“Dub, Actualy Phil said he didn't want to add to people's albums on his photo page. He said the only pictures he'd be adding would be the thumbnail shots of TTers. He asked people create albums at TT now instaed of him loading all those pictures.”

“This looks like a good thread to put a brief intro in. I did a lot of hiking and backpacking growing up, including doing the 4000-footers of New England, and some outings in the Sierras and the Rockies. However, a sequence of events involving a hernia and marrying a non-outdoorsy type put an end to my hiking days except for some really short, very sporadic outings. But now, having got myself back into shape, partly on doctor's orders but mostly because I wanted to and knew I needed to anyway, I have been thinking about resuming hiking/backpacking after way too long of a hiatus. This Trail Talk forum seems like a good place to be as I begin the process. I hope that in the next year or so I may be getting out places and meeting some of the folks I see hanging out here.”

“I'm in the Phoenix area. I have only been here a couple years, before that I spent 10 years in Denver. I grew up in MD.
